Having a great time hosting the Hacky Racers robotic series event this weekend. #HackyRacers
@MakersHour Hi I’m Footleg. This week I’ve mainly been working on preparing for the #hackyracers autonomous robotics racing event this weekend. Tonight has been spent filing down 3D prints and working through the #MakersHour questions backwards.
A few more QR code gates to make today for #hackyracers autonomous competition.
I’m going to be seeing QR codes in my sleep tonight. #HackyRacers
It looks an absolute beast, but the drive chain and steering fail in almost every way. I just tried to make it move with the wheels on and the motor is so fast that it doesn’t have the torque to even move it, and the steering servo doesn’t have the torque to move the steering at all if the wheels are touching the ground. #HackyRacers
Apparently all we need now is a carrot on a stick and it'll go where we want! #hackyracers
I haven’t got my robot mobile yet, but we have built a test course and taken Brian’s robot for a spin. #hackyracers
Well it printed beautifully. Now let’s see if all that late night CAD iterating has got everything in the right positions. #hackyracers
Over a month on, I have not been idle on this project. The positioning of the steering and suspension assembly took a lot of tweaking to get right with my actual parts dimensions. But the suspension travel now works without the wheels tilting in an out. Then I had to make the drive components and servo fit around all this. Adding ribs for rigidity. Space is tight, but I'm getting there. #HackyRacers
Pleased with today's work. I designed a mounting system for QR codes to be used as gates for the #HackyRacers autonomous robotics racing event in a few weeks time. We need around 50 of these gates, so the design needed to be weather proof, low cost, low effort and possible to make from scratch on site in case any gates have 'accidents' during the racing.
