A lot of progress on the CAD model for my #HackyRacers A2 class autonomous racer since I last posted about it. Parts for the steering linkages arrived and tonight I measured and modelled these. So now I have a working CAD steering assembly to tune the dimensions of.
How did things get so complicated! Many iterations later, I am printing my final-final-final test fit parts. #HackyRacers #CAD
Two steps forwards, one step back. Just as I had got the gear meshing really nicely tuned with the nice differentials I bought, I realised the dogbone cups on them were too large for the dogbones my suspension arms need. Luckily they came with another pair of differentials but they are a different size to the others in all dimensions, so several hours of CAD later and we are doing test fit prints again. #HackyRacers
Good progress this week on the CAD modelling of the alloy parts I bought for my A2 Hacky Racer. I started designing the rear wheel assembly tonight. #HackyRacers #CAD #robotics
One down, six more to go. #hackyracers #cad
@rpimag Progress on my actual build today. I have a working differential gearbox. Parts all remodelled to fit the bearings on these metal parts which were different to the dimensions of the original design. Tuning the positioning of the gears so they mesh well without binding required 0.25mm adjustment precision. After several test prints to dial in the exact dimensions it runs really smoothly now with the parts I bought. #hackyracers
We’re gonna need parts, lots of parts. #hackyracers #RoboticsSeries
I was up late working on CAD for my #hackyracers A2 class robotic racer design so I could confirm the sizes of RC drive train parts I needed to order from AiExpress. Planning an off road 4WD chassis with suspension and Ackerman steering. My first foray into brushless motor drive too. #maker #Robotics

The folks behind #HackyRacers are starting a new "Robotic Racing" event.
Ideally #RaspberryPi autonomous vehicles but remote control is also possible.
Limited entries (only 10 places) for the first event in April as part of #Footfest

Robotic Racing Series – Hacky Racers

Hackspace member Mark Mellors is heavily involved with the #lowbudget #electric #motorracing competition #HackyRacers. If you are interested in finding out more about how to get involved or the specs for building your very own Hacky Racer check out their website https://hackyracers.co.uk/
Their racing season just started yesterday at the Great Northen Classics event in Derby. They have other events around the UK later in the year.
