So, I saw today's news about DarkSword, and although I don't have anything with iOS that old (v18.7 or older), I noticed a new version of iOS out (26.4) and decided to update.
Bad move. Bad, bad move.
iOS 26.4 implements age verification.
It's very simple - just scan your credit card or government id and bingo.
I don't have a credit card.
The government ID is apparently:
- a driving license (which I don't have)
- a passport (which isn't scanning)

If, like me, you've been actively seeking a job recently, you will likely be aware of the impact Ai has had on the job market. Virtually every other day is a msm news story about qualified and/or experienced people making hundreds of applications without getting anywhere.
Personally, although I've had a few interviews that didn't quite land (one I didn't really have enough experience, the others were pulled or lost funding), I've now applied for over 300 jobs over the past year. At this stage I'm quite philosophical about it and recognise it's not a reflection of my value.
Along with all the other current crises, there is now a looming employment and skills crisis. This is being framed as a benefits culture led by overdiagnosis of neurodivergence. Which makes me so very very cross it's difficult to put into words. I know that's not true. You know that's not true. *They* know that's not true. It's just a convenient demographic to throw under the bus to detract from the catastrophic damage being wrought by this new gold rush.
Urgh.
I've started typing this out a few times recently and always deleted. It's not something I feel very comfortable talking about. But I am really struggling with this and I figure that if I am there might be others. And I believe in visibility and not suffering in silence - been there and it was awful.
I know things will change at some point. And I know I've spoken to some of you separately irl about this (and thank you so much for your support), but just wanted to fire a beam out across Fedi to anyone else in this shitty situation. Yes planning rules have since changed, but the moment has passed. We’re staying on gas.
I have argued this point in the past, as I'm sure many others, but it's nice to have a term for this concept: hobbyless behavior.

Generated 5.2kWh, but the app says that it only delivered 4kWh to the house. So the round trip efficiency of the battery seems to be quite poor. Early indication is 56%, however that is only based on 1 day’s data. App could also be much better with reporting.
Still used 16.6kWh from the grid yesterday. This compares to 21.3 to 26.2kWh over the last 3 Saturdays, so it is making a noticeable difference. If every day was like yesterday then it would pay for itself in 3 years on current prices.

Generated 5.2kWh today on a 1.75kWp array that is fully shaded by 4pm. Quite a good result! 👍
Adjusted the orientation of the panels, should improve the output based on what I’ve seen from 1 sunny day’s data.
Curiously, I have zero access to my export total. Octopus or Bright. 🤨
