Finally packed away my sewing machine, overlocker, and the pattern pieces from the last things I sewed back in November? So of course now I start feeling like maybe I could sew something. Only shopping from stash though (fabric and patterns).
I should probably also inventory both stashes. And knit something from the yarn I spun for Tour de Fleece.
I couldn't find a pattern that I liked, so figured I'd make one up. A side-to-side bolero shrug type thing. Start in the round with some ribbing, then work some sort of lace pattern flat (with some moss stitch at the edges to prevent curling), ribbing in the round to finish. I'll weigh the yarn as I go to maximise it. I'd best get winding. #knitting
Alrighty then. I've got 106g/546 yards of #handpsun Cheviot/Tussah silk/bio-nylon blend (which puts it around a light fingering/3-4 ply weight) in a mirror rainbow gradient, my neck light, my reading glasses, some DPNs and the vaguest of vague plans. Let's knit! #knitting
Cast on 80 stitches on 3.25mm needles but didn't make it around the first round of 2x2 rib before deciding it would be too big and loose, so ripped it out and cast on 72 stitches over 2.5mm needles instead #knitting
24 rounds of ribbing seems about right, time to hit the stitchionaries to find a lace pattern to fit (initially in the round, then worked flat with a border). 7g used #knitting #handspun
Lace pattern selected, and switched to 6mm needles, but the rest will have to wait until tomorrow as I have to go run around in the rain this evening, hopefully with company. #knitting
Hmm, halfway through a repeat and while I wanted a very open pattern, this is more open than I wanted. Time to rip back and switch to option B #knitting
I prefer the pattern, but still too open. Ripping back and switching to smaller needles #knitting
I'm back to where I started the day. But the time is not lost, that was just swatching. Pattern B with 4.5mm needles. #knitting
Bah. Was just about to finish for the day and accidentally pulled the needle out, dropping some stitches. Picked up what I could and tinked back a couple of rounds, but to no avail. Ripping back to the start of the lace again. #knitting
I'll have to fix the rest of it tomorrow. That's how it goes sometimes. At least with #knitting you can screw up and still reuse the materials, no problem.
Now I've fixed on a lace pattern and needle size I'll put in some lifelines going forwards to make ripping back easier #knitting
Lifelines added, but cat currently preventing progress being made #knitting #Caturday
It's time for maths. 12g of yarn has yielded about 21cm of stretched length. I need 57cm of a worked flat section to stretch across my back, which would use around 33g of yarn. This means that I can work in the round until there is 69g left before switching to working flat (but I'll probably play it safe and switch a little sooner in case my worked flat gauge changes massively). #knitting
Finally found some time to knit this week #knitting
Arse, just had to rip back the entire day's knitting (and a bit) as the lifeline I had put in was a couple of rounds after a dropped stitch/mistake so I have to go back to the previous lifeline. That's what they're for, but it means I won't be finishing this tomorrow #knitting
Body says no to any more #knitting today, but I've just about finished ahead for the day (by around 4 rounds, but ahead is ahead). #wipwednesday
Cast off and can be sure that I maximised my yarn usage #knitting
