It is up to every American to save America from itself.
If Americans don't do it, the rest of the world is going to, and America is really not going to like it.
Either way it is going to take a furious exchange of hot lead to accomplish. The sooner the better.
The US was created when 13 crown colonies that didn't want to pay taxes on their two largest exports. Genocidal land expansion and chattel slavery
@zm @BrianJopek @briankrebs
The taxation is often emphasised. The reluctance of the British to issue "exploitation licences" of the Natives to rich white men is rarely mentioned.
The President was given too much "king-like" powers from the start and only well off white men had a vote.
The Civil War was more about control than slaves (see Jim Crow laws). You can be annexed (Hawai'i, Alaska, Mexican territory etc) but you can't leave.
@BrianJopek
The slave owning founding fathers put in checks and balances against people ruining their genocidal settler state.
Although trump is clearly a raging maniac, he is a product of the system. Trump or not, the american economy is in ruins and the genocidal settler colony overseas was not made by trump.
Trump also did not invent epstein and his pedo cannibalism club. Clinton himself was part of that, along a slew of others.
The system is based on exploitation. Its working as intended.
@BrianJopek
A line from "Married With Children" keeps coming back to me:
"If you hand a gun to a chimp and the chimp shoots someone, you don't blame the chimp." - Marcy D'Arcy
by the way, these checks and balances do not just apply to the supreme court and congress
it applies to *you*
FUCKING #VOTE, PEOPLE
the next dem candidate may SUCK. fucking SUCK
(they won't suck IF YOU SHOW UP IN THE FUCKING PRIMARIES, USELESS WHINERS)
as if the dem candidate sucking fucking matters with a fascist threat like trump and MAGA
a vote is not a statement of eternal love
it's tactics in a larger war
fight the war and fuck your mindless cynicism and toxic idealism
"You're trying to put someone in power that you have a chance of influencing. I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure you don't succeed, and the worst person possible gets in. I am a more morally upstanding person than you"
-Internet Leftists
there is nothing virtuous in me. i am powered by spite. i fucking hate nonvoters with a white hot fury. useless fucking cynics and perfectionists, sitting there with their lazy entitled whining and inaction while we slide to fascism
that my spite happens to serve a common good is happy happenstance. in other words, in the greatest statement of moral philosophy made in the entire history of humanity: "helaas pindakaas" 🤭
@benroyce @BrianJopek “But Candidate X isn’t flawless! I might as well just vote for the tyrant!”
I do appreciate when people say that out loud so I know whose opinions I can ignore from that moment on.
"I'm not satisfied with half a loaf, so I'll just eat rat poison instead!"
My summary of the last Presidential election result. True, the race was decided by a small minority of actual (nitwit or evil) voters, but as for those of you who couldn't be bothered to vote, you suck too.
both tyrants as in reality
or "both tyrants" as in edgelord mindlessly cynical bullshit, often pumped from MAGA/ geopolitical trollfarm accounts cosplaying left to do an easy psyop to suppress the left vote and help elect the real tyrant, and unfortunately believed by toxic idealism morons
@benroyce @cy @BrianJopek Nailed it all around.
The many “both sides are the same!” whiners were either hopelessly ignorant or wholly gullible.
Imagine Harris invading Minnesota. As if.
@Thumper1964 @benroyce @cy @BrianJopek Well, she definitely wasn't a perfect candidate, as though such a thing exists.
But wow, to settle for "just" intelligent, educated, rational, experienced, competent, and a decent human? Again, and I cannot stress this enough, the "both sides are the same" crowd are freaking idiots.
I vehemently disagree. If we could all collectively decide to opt-out, then sure. But we can't. We won't. The right will absolutely, positively, never agree to abstain from elections. Ergo, the left abstaining is mathematically identical to voting for the right.
Voting for the lesser evil sucks. Not voting for the lesser evil is implicitly voting for the greater evil.
Sometimes the lesser evil is genuinely, truly... Less Evil.
and how do you do any of those fucking things without voting
fighting propaganda for example:
it requires a set of laws
achieved how?
laws passed by representatives
what representatives?
representatives who were elected
elected by who?
elected because people fucking showed up and fucking voted
duh
all of this is all blood-dripping-out-of-your ears levels of fucking obvious
so, with all due respect: what the fuck are you babbling about? you're trolling or insane
Yup.
A recent related thought:
When this criticism comes from an individual, it's fair. People who stayed home did fuck things up badly by not voting for the better option and leaving us with literally the worst president this country has ever seen.
However, when this criticism comes from the democratic party or someone in power there, I get pissed off. It's their job to get voters energized and get them voting and they failed at it. Miserably. Multiple times.
who gives a fuck
why consider anything the democratic establishment says
they fucking suck
just ignore them, show the fuck up to vote, and replace them with real leftists
that's it
why do we fucking care what some spineless centrist democratic party asshole thinks?
why are our emotions centered on their words? why should we ever care?
just fucking ignore the useless pieces of shit and vote them out
@benroyce @gbargoud @BrianJopek
...says every #MAGA idiot who is in a panic over the looming elections. #BothSides
@benroyce @gbargoud @BrianJopek
I don't care if #MTG herself decides to run as a #Democrat, I'd vote for her before I'd vote #Republican ever again.
Some #Democrats may suck, sure, but discouraging people from voting b/c of #BothSides idiocy is only doing the hard Right's work for them.
@MugsysRapSheet @gbargoud @BrianJopek
i get it, you're agreeing with me. i thought you were arguing against me
sorry, i'm punch drunk
I do ignore them and plan to continue doing so except when voting them out in the primaries or holding my nose and voting for them in the generals if the primaries didn't work out and they are up against a fascist again.
This was more of an observation about how the same words should be interpreted differently depending on who says them.
no argument
well said
i merely worry about this "man i really hate the establishment dems, so i'm all for not voting and handing our country to MAGA"
which is fucking stupid but it exists out there
not accusing you of it, i'm making sure i put an asterisk on your words to preempt that unfortunate moronic sentiment out there
@Harrybear @benroyce @gbargoud @BrianJopek
We need more than “voices.”
We need an army of people committed to working the vote, to registering eligible voters, to calling/texting/door knocking/postcarding voters; an army dedicated to GETTING OUT THE VOTE.
We had a pretty effective #GOTV effort in 2018 & 2020, but approx 80 million eligible voters didn’t show up in 2024 — and look what happened!
The U.S. has a miserable record historically of voter turnout for the last 100+ years. In presidential election years, turnout never exceeds 63%, and midterms average around 40%.
WE CAN CHANGE THAT with effort, information, & commitment.
