@libreoffice markdown support sounds like a feature that would help a lot of people to bridge info between development environments and office environments. Great, I will definitely try this out πŸ‘πŸ»
@opentechfan @libreoffice so this will allow us to write in Markdown everywhere in the suite? Not just import / export?
@opentechfan @libreoffice Ooh, that really does sound like a killer feature for weirdos like me :)
@opentechfan @libreoffice Yeah, nice. I usually have VSCode open anyway, but if you’re trying to get non/less-technical people to write in .md to run through a SSG, MkDocs, etc, being able to have them do that in a familiar office-type environment is a huge benefit over an IDE or some specialist md editor.
@libreoffice I hope LibrePilot is finally implemented /s

Marketing kumbayah BS: "LibreOffice 26.2 shows what happens when software is built around users, not business models"

But: Please check the actual release notes https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/26.2 for affiliations of developers. Glad that TDF still mentions that.

@libreoffice Finally I can write my blog post with LibreOffice πŸ™Œ
@libreoffice Markdown support is a biggie: thanks, keep up the good work! πŸ‘
@libreoffice Hurray for Markdown support!
@libreoffice Ooh, what are those connectors?
@richlv You can see in the Calc section of the linked-to Release Notes: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/26.2#Calc
@libreoffice Thanks, skimmed the linked page and didn't figure it out right away :)
@libreoffice πŸ“ Markdown support πŸ₯°
@libreoffice I personally moved to SoftMaker's Office Suite. They also have FreeOffice
@libreoffice is markdown just import / export or can libreoffice restrict the UI to just markdown supported features?
@cos @libreoffice just import/export. A feature request asking for ui support was recently closed as "won't fix" (rightly so, IMO).
@RGBes @libreoffice why? If I open a markdown file, I would like to make sure I don't use features it can't represent. Of course saving the file in ODT should lift the restrictions.
@cos @libreoffice When loading a non-native file format, LibO translate it into its own internal representation, you never really work on the non-native format, you always import/export it, which means that after a few rounds you can get a messy file. On any program, it's always better to work with the native format. Also, using Writer to write a markup file is like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut πŸ˜‰ Better use a lean, quick markup editor and only at the end import it for the final touches.

@libreoffice

Big new update to #LibreOffice.

Thank you for the info, LO is a great and constantly improving product.

Will update later today.

@libreoffice Are you going to add a spellchecker soon? Is there one already?
@Lahdoja Yes, LibreOffice has had a spellchecker for 15 years πŸ˜‰

@libreoffice

This is thrilling, I am looking forward to seeing what the markdown feature brings

I use markdown everyday from writing to note taking, to minutes - so knowing it will now be readily usable in LibreOffice is big

@libreoffice Oh that Markdown support needs to be checked out

@libreoffice

Linux Mint here:

am I better to install the 'system' version, of the 'Flatpack' one?

@libreoffice

do you happen to know why the "check update" says there's no update?

@rzeta0 It's our new stable branch (in that it won't change, with random new features in 26.2.1, 26.2.2 etc.) It will only receive bug and security fixes. The update checker will recommend it for all users after the first or second point release, but you can always get it directly from the website. Thanks!
@libreoffice I wish you would improve and modernize the UI. For that reason I switched to Softmaker Office.

@libreoffice

Please, consider donating to the #LibreOffice project.

You can have it for free but the folks involved are cranking out top notch updates and expanding the capabilities all the time.

@kbsez @libreoffice Could you please consider adding an option to donate using Bancontact (Belgium) or Wero? It would be amazing to be able to support you without relying on the US card providers. Thanks!
@ignacyy @kbsez Yes, we'll look into it! You can always make a donation using a direct bank transfer (the details are on our Donate page). Thank you 😊
@libreoffice Argh. I tried to install the new version on several Windows laptops but it's unusable. I had to go back to 25.8. Maybe an issue with the .msi ?
@aln Hi, what does "unusable" mean exactly?
@libreoffice when I open Writer, the window is just black or white while waiting undefinitely ("Writer is not responding").
@aln Ah, OK – if you can take a few minutes to report it to the QA community at https://bugs.documentfoundation.org with details about your setup, they can investigate. Thanks!
