I have this still unspecific idea in my head about somehow applying a coordinate system on the ULB campus and #FOSDEM maps (or something) to help us deal with "let's meet at..." problems once and for all.
I was asked "where are you?" countless times this FOSDEM, and its not easy to describe in a decently specific way.
@bagder Perhaps a FOSDEM specific version of "what.three.words"?
@Tenzer my thoughts exactly
@bagder Although, in this situation it might be nicer if the words aren't totally random for each square, so you can get a sense of how close you are to the point, by comparing your current location with your target destination.

@Tenzer @bagder but why a FOSDEM-specific version?

what.three.words, and other geocodes, have at least 3 meter precision; wouldn't it be enough to just use those like anywhere else in the world?

@kytta @Tenzer @bagder In addition to what3words you would at least also need the floor level when inside a building. Also GNSS do not work that well inside buildings for navigation. Something like "in front of room X" usually works way better than coordinates.
@raimue @kytta @Tenzer several rooms have multiple doors and there are many hundred persons. "outside a room" is not very precise. You need to find a small enough room for that to work decently fine. Which is somewhat hard and annoying, especially if you are a newbie and aren't quite aware of this.
@bagder do you know the map from 39c3 and similar?
@l33tname @bagder For reference that software is https://github.com/c3nav and the map is at https://c3nav.de

@bagder I always reply: in my skin.
@bagder it would be cool if more phones had uwb. would be pretty cool to have a meshcore enabled uwb device!

@Tenzer @bagder
what about a WhereAreYou addition... xDD

curl -x WAY "https://me.here/location"

returning a JSON:
{
"route": [
{ "direction": "straight", "distance": "100m" },
{ "direction": "left", "distance": "20m" },
{ "direction": "straight", "distance": "10m" }
]
}

@bagder We should draw numbered grid lines across the whole planet!

I know it‘s ambitious and it‘s unclear how to cover the oceans, but the benefits would be huge!🤓

@bagder I think we need to get you an RFID tracker :)
@bagder You are where the curl stickers on the table are, duh! ;-)
@ascherbaum I should just make the pile bigger to get visible better at a larger distance!
@bagder 30k stickers next year then?
