I've been on #Mastodon for a month now, and I’ve just been posting pics of my #cats

A lot of people have interacted, and everyone's been kind and friendly

And I noticed, any time I have a sneaky look at one of your profiles, it's all anti-fascist! Trans rights! BLM! Anti-capitalist! Feminist! etc.

Which is another reason I love it here

Is it the cat pictures that bring out the kind and progressive people? Is there a connection? Or am I just lucky?

Molly thinks I'm lucky

@rufustheduck I love your alttext 😊

(and Molly too =)

@geppiegep thank you! (and from Molly too)
Cat People Are More Intelligent, But Dog Lovers Have Their Positives Too

Conflict of interest disclosure: the author of this article has a cat.

@rufustheduck I just registered, so I’m entirely new here. Glad to hear you had a nice experience. Still finding my way around.
@Mint_Lavender welcome! And nice to meet you. Hope you find this place as pleasant as I have

It’s amazing how quickly you intuited the rules around here.

@kichae they're good rules
@rufustheduck
I think it's just what happens when your timeline is filled by people you chose (and the things they boost). And cats.
@rufustheduck I think people who are kind to animals are also passionate about the welfare of all living creatures.

@rufustheduck Nope, that pretty much sums up my experience here the past 3.5 years. There's been a few jerks and haters in the mix, but a swift block and it's back to the cool people.

Give Molly a good head rub from me.

@somcak I'll get straight on it
@rufustheduck
Your cat looks like a superhero.
@Quenby that would explain why she sleeps so much. She's out superheroing all night!
@rufustheduck Mastodon doesn't exist. It's a mind-control project created by cats, who want to fool people into thinking they have something nice.
@dilmandila this is the kind of mind-control I can get on board with

@rufustheduck

It's very hard to monetise anything in the Fediverse, so all those who value money over people, find little of interest here.

They go away, saying it's complicated and difficult to use the Fediverse because it doesn't work for them.

@rufustheduck
Here there are no annoying algorithms that sentence you into an echo chamber, that's why all sorts of different people read your toots.
@hadon its such a different experience to every other social media platform I've used!
@rufustheduck
Yes, for me too, and I like seeing so many different people, so many different ways to perceive the same world ;) It's nice to watch the world through someone else's eyes.
@hadon I honestly couldn't agree more

@rufustheduck
I know you like cats, but, just watch this video (puppy and parrot :D ) it made me laugh this morning ;)

@rufustheduck The media falsely describe FaceBook as a social media platform when it is really a means of addicting users in order sell more ads. Money from grabbing user attention via mindless doomscrolling. Individual posts drowning in a sea of system posts.
@NicelyManifest agree. FB has been an unusable cesspool for a decade

@rufustheduck But point also is that the media give it that simple, deceiving label.

A better descriptor would include, if not unwieldy doing so, the brain atrophying effects of using FB.

@rufustheduck my Molly says hi to your Molly.
@commonst beautiful! Please say hello back
@rufustheduck You know what they say about cats... Sometime anti-social, always anti-fascist.

@rasterweb @rufustheduck

That would make for an amazing sticker, and custom instance emoji @jerry πŸ˜‰

@rasterweb @rufustheduck I came up with this gem years ago:

"Cats are inherently anarchists, which is why they make the best leaders..."

Sounds like a contradiction at first, but I intended the phrase as kinda like an anarchist zen koan or something... It stresses that cats would make the best leaders (totally factual) and emphasizes that the best leadership structure is anti hierarchical and temporary (anarchist).

@ailurocrat @rufustheduck Cat prefer a life of leisure, and do not take part in "hustle culture". Contentment to a cat is food and a warm place to sleep. They do not work 40 hours a week, they do not attend meetings. They are a perfect example of what we should strive towards.
@rasterweb I want this as a laptop sticker-are you OK for me to do that?
@mauvedeity Ohh, not my design but I’m pretty sure it’s fine. (I’ll dig up the source later.)
@rufustheduck ok, now you can stop polluting masto with cats.

@rufustheduck
I don't think cats would put up with fascism, do you?

On the other hand...not to badmouth our canine friends, but what with the barking and the slavish loyalty a lot of them seem pretty ready for authoritarianism!

@rufustheduck

Looking at profiles isn’t sneaky. You’re not stalking. Feel good about getting to know people!

@rufustheduck completely seriously - cats are independent and do not love unconditionally. Building relationships with cats requires empathy, and a respect for boundaries
@cat_news you're absolutely right
@rufustheduck
That is because...
in general, animal lovers are usually a lot better class of people than the standard orange cockwomble fascist pedophile.
IMHO.
@rufustheduck awww that looks almost exactly like my buddy ari/aurora! Down to the partially black nose SO CUTE πŸ’œ
@rufustheduck molly's a bit of a cutie
@rufustheduck
Pretty simple answer: cats are antifascist by nature
