Not exactly a fan of glass side panels but that day it really saved our asses. Wife was playing WoW with friends and I only heard her saying "Wait, I smell something burning". At that point I was already running to cut the power xD

I used to listen with good headphones, and my finger on the Pause button.
I was usually able to pick out the extra "fader up" hiss (on the presenter's mic channel) or the tape hiss from the cart, just before the jingle started, over the (slightly different) hiss of an FM stereo signal.
All analogue.

T2R@RadicalSocialWorker Two years ago me discovered bitrot was a thing on recordable cd/dvds and had to collect, extract, and reburn onto MDISCs for archival purposes before they all perished. Dang tape media was still working fine however.
