Governor Walz Addresses Ongoing Federal Presence in Minnesota

@MatWright thank you so much for pointing to this.
@MatWright incredible

@chris @MatWright

I honestly believe the US is history, how do you reverse this shit if you only hope to survive for 11 months to an election that most likely in todays total shit will most likely not happen.

@MatWright It is crazy that there is nothing that can be done.
@botolo86 @MatWright Iirc, this scenario was the argument pro second amendment, right?
@axeln @MatWright This is what I often think about. This is Federal vs State.

@MatWright So far, remaining peaceful hasn’t stopped feds from kidnapping and killing. This is not a winning strategy.

How is this an “utterly incredible address”? Because it looks a lot like Tim Walz is saying “no matter how bad it gets, don’t resort to violence even if that’s how you have to protect yourself and your community.”

I want to believe he knows there’s a line that—when crossed—we have no choice. I also want to believe people know we’ve already crossed that threshold.

@louie @MatWright Unless you have sufficient might to overthrow the govt (meaning you get the military onside) all you would achieve is brutal repression and the cancellation of elections. Which is likely what Trump wants, as he is guaranteed to lose the mid-terms.

I've lived through a revolution in the Philippines. The army chose not to shoot civilians who were demonstrating peacefully. If they were being shot it may have ended differently. Peaceful resistance results in fewer casualties.

@samueljohnson oh so be peaceful and get a dictatorship or don’t be peaceful and get one anyway.

You’re not selling it.

@louie You seem not to have read or understood what I wrote and intent on ignoring Walz's advice.
@samueljohnson uh huh and that doesn’t apply to you I suppose
@MatWright I read Prophet Song by Paul Lynch a few years back, it’s literally from the PoV of someone living through the kind of event that the US is experiencing now (except it’s set in Ireland). Too close to the bone for me to recommend to US people, but I recommend it to anyone who wants to understand how people in the US are feeling right now.
