Ten years ago, if someone had told me that tech policy bloggers would be calling for ICE to be abolished, I would have thought it very unlikely.
"Abolish ICE" is an increasingly mainstream and extremely correct position.

10 years ago at Trump 1.0 protests was the first time I saw the "Abolish ICE" slogan on signs. I didn't understand, so I read an immigration attorney's blog and the subject and thought, "Oh, okay, that makes sense. Abolish ICE." I was not what you'd call a leftist, just vehemently anti-Trump in general. But yes, it definitely wasn't a mainstream opinion back then.
It sure is now! Besides this, at protests we get all kinds of education about pre-existing problems with ICE.
Abolish the organisation.
Jail all of them for murder. With the masks, you don't know which of them did it.
Jail the "president" who controls this murderous gang.
Professional Cadillac liberal Tim Walz threw that option away at his press conference.
There is no criminal immunity for immigration enforcement. They have to follow state criminal law. A former federal running mate chose to not run again then chose to capitulate when he had to do his job. What were you expecting from him?
In 1933, the public majorly supported what the NSDAP was doing, removing Jews from the civil service and politics.
By 1938, public support continued as the Gestapo went door to door hunting Jews, homosexuals, and others who opposed them.
By 1939 the American Nazi Party had their night at Madison Square Garden, promoting Christian Nationalism and of course other Nazi ideology. Under, of course, “pro-America” guise.
So, yes. I can believe Americans support this.
@evacide Techdirt's been a consistent critic of ICE, though during the Obama years they focused more on ICE's abuse of copyright enforcement than its abuse of people with brown skin.
Tim Cushing's their main guy covering abusive behavior by law enforcement; here's the first Trump-era post I can find about ICE abusing immigrants, from May 2017:
First example I can find of them using the phrase "abolish ICE" is from 2024, but I think the sentiment was always there.
@evacide tech dirt is certainly special. They spelt it out didn’t they that they were a political blog now that one time long ago.

@evacide apparently it's already too late

Damn. The TechLibs are radicalizing. Love to see it. 😢
I hope folks learned their lesson from 2020 and get the job done this time. No more black squares. I wanna see ICE agents DOGEd, live on air.
Abolish the republican party and jail them for the TREASON they DID and are still COMMITTING! Treason comes with the death penalty! Society doesn't want these types of criminals walking the streets.
Jail all the billionaire puppet-masters also, abolish bribes for congress along with a slew of other reforms needed for a long time now.
"Abolish ICE before they kill again" is a very powerful statement, because it's factual and simple and shocking.
