Anyone can break up a showing of an enemy propaganda film by putting two or three dozen large moths in a paper bag. Take the bag to the movies with you, put it on the floor in an empty section of the theater as you go in and leave it open. The moths will fly out and climb into the projector beam, so that the film will be obscured by fluttering shadows.

Ganked here because the OP I found it on doesn't believe in spending two minutes to add alt-text so I would boost it. But I think you guys deserve to see it anyway.

I am not sure if everyone who is outraged by the insane rise in RAM pricing understands that this is solely because a billionaire bought 40% of all memory chip production. Not because he needs it, just to oust the competition. And the entire IT sector, and all private PC owners, have been taken prisoners in the process.

The kids who think it's fun to be cruel to others grow into adults who think it's fun to be cruel to others.

And they don't make friends—they make victims and accomplices.

"Boys will be boys" is what got us incels, school shooters, big tech, and the current state of politics.

A 96 is a nonsexual position in which we turn away from one another and blatantly ignore our genitals for as long as it takes.
Word.

I've seen an uptick in links to Substack lately, so here's yet another reminder:

Substack is a transphobic, pro-Nazi platform. Many of will not follow links to it. We are not giving that place any eyeballs or clicks.

Publishing there, or linking to it, helps the Nazi site owners. Please don't do it.

Linus Tech Tips: There was a recent thing from a major tech company where developers were asked to say how many lines of code they wrote, and if it wasn’t enough, they were terminated. And there was someone here who was extremely upset about that approach to measuring productivity because it means nothing.

Linus Torvalds: Oh yeah, no, you shouldn’t even be upset at that point. That’s just incompetence. Anybody who thinks that’s a valid metric is too stupid to work at a tech company.

LTT: You do know who you just said that about, right?

Linus Torvalds: No.

LTT: Oh. Uh… he was a prominent figure in the improved efficiency of the U.S. Government recently.

Linus Torvalds: Oh, apparently I was spot-on.

These are two of my favorite memes about companies putting AI into everything.

if you have any additional favorite ones you want to share, I wouldn't mind a few more to spice up one of my coming talks with....

Fascinating story from a software dev Fedi friend, shared with permission to keep it anonymous:

❝A couple of days ago, I had an experience at work that made me understand one of the reasons why the chasm of opinion about LLMs is so deep and wide.

My department mostly does fiddly lowlevel work, [close to hardware]. A few of us don't use LLMs at all, a few use them sparingly, and one member is absolutely all-in. So during one of our morning meetings he suddenly started going off on a deeply disturbing diatribe about how we need to treat the LLMs “like slaves”.❞
