#movie #75: Hot Fuzz

Absolutely on of my top 10 films all time.

#movie #87: Wake Up Dead Man

Agatha Christie, Arthur Conan Doyal, Rian Johnson?

Edit: I’m sure there are other murder mystery writers out there doing great things, but is anyone else doing it at such a mainstream level? If so, I’d love to hear about them!

#movie #88: A Muppet Christmas Carol
#movie #89: Sleepy Hollow
#movie #90: Relay

#movie #91: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

👀

#movie #92: Uncharted

#movie #95: Fight Club
#movie #96: Avatar: Fire and Ash
#movie #97: The Pope’s Exorcist

#movie #98: The Fellowship of the Ring

Also, I watched the extended version this time and it just reaffirmed my long-standing belief that the standard editions are better movies, and the extended versions are just “more LOTR” and that all some people want, which is fine. For me, it shows how impactful editing is on the final product, and how amazing a job they did for the theatrical cuts.

#movie #99: One Battle After Another

I really love a movie that gets better the second time you watch it in a week.

#movie #100: Heart Eyes

#movie #101: The Two Towers

I’ll say it again, these movies are miracles.

#movie #102: Sorry, Baby

Count this in the “really liked it” category.

@matt_birchler Extended edition, right? Always the extended edition.
@matt_birchler Final Destination is a genre that to me is more comedy than horror - this too?
@matt_birchler okay I need to watch this!
@matt_birchler What’s on deck for the last 2 of the 100?
@jonathanreed Oh man, I don’t know! I think I’ll finish the trilogy, but there are a bunch of movies out now that I need to watch before Oscar season.
@matt_birchler What a horrible take. Change your opinion now to be correct.
@ChrisLawley Editing matters! Extended editions are clearly just to boost watch time bro 😛
@matt_birchler Hey @nileane, have you seen this shit our co-host is saying?
@ChrisLawley @matt_birchler he's one of those tiktok kids with no attention span, he can't handle the superior extended cuts
@nileane @matt_birchler He watches movies 1 minute clips at a time and out of order. 🙄

@matt_birchler I don’t remember the theatrical cuts at all

All I know is the extended editions

It’s not the same these days on streaming though

Gotta go back to when each of the extended movies were on two DVDs and you had to switch in the middle

@countablenewt That’s honestly the best way.
@matt_birchler it’s a built in intermission à la Gone With the Wind
@matt_birchler WHAT?!!! Extended or bust with LOTR!
@matt_birchler finally, somebody else is on the theatrical editions train! Preach it!
@matt_birchler I partially agree. Most of all I think the extended “Conerning Hobbits” segment was a mistake. The flow of the beginning of the theatrical cut is so perfect.

@matt_birchler I used to totally be in the extended or nothing camp. But I've also grown to appreciate this view as all movies runtimes have increased over the years.

I can still happily watch a good three hour epic, but I increasingly appreciate the tightly cut 90 minute flick when I come across it.

@matt_birchler OK, but do you remember, or care about, the plot?

@jasonclarke Of course! The "doesn't rise to the heights of the last one" was because the story in the last one was really impactful for me.

Honestly I'm not sure why this franchise in particular gets this specific criticism. I have seen sooooo many more forgettable stories.

@matt_birchler @jasonclarke Still need to watch 3 but 2 had a very impactful story for me especially at that time being a brand new dad
@matt_birchler Fair enough. I saw the first one, really enjoyed it at the time, and quickly could recall almost nothing about the story. Perhaps having been in 3D had influence on that, but it eliminated any desire to see the following ones.
@matt_birchler My brother raved about this one - need to find the time to watch it soon
@matt_birchler Insanely great movie…
@hiro more like One Great Scene After Another, am I right? 😛
@matt_birchler I thought it was decent, but I was rating it with the "video game movie" curve added. As a movie it isn't great. Fountain of Youth on Apple TV is the better "Uncharted movie" IMO.
@matt_birchler oh man I actually really enjoyed this one!
@matt_birchler Yeah. Too bad they didn't make any Star Wars episodes after this one.
@natejung ha, well I’m happy they made one more…
@matt_birchler That was just a visual and auditory treat. More of a demonstration of what could have been considered an additional episode. That's why they had to release a 2 hour and 22 minute video explaining that in 2019.
