This entire situation is terrifying. Paris’ account hasn’t been restored and Apple said they can’t help. https://cloudisland.nz/@parisba/115722111751620637

Apple computer says no. Anyone got a lawyer to recommend to help me write a nastygram to Apple and/or help me sue them?

@marcedwards @parisba I do feel like this is the type of thing that governmental and supranational bodies like the EU should prioritise in terms of regulating. Along with digital media ownership rights.
@jimmyjamesuk Yep, absolutely. So much of our lives are tied to these devices and accounts. It’s completely unacceptable there’s no recourse. Apple’s likely playing with fire here. Eventually a regulator will take aim. +@parisba
@marcedwards @parisba I'm half expecting that this isn't a simple "your account is locked" and instead encryption keys are gone and no-one has the guts to say it. If that is the case then terrifying doesn't begin to describe what has happened. Any suspect activity and poof, everything is gone with no recourse.
@bartreardon It sounds like the auth servers have a block list. I don’t think anything has indicated this is irriversable. It’s more an issue of Apple’s apathy. +@parisba

@marcedwards @parisba In any case if has made me question how much of my day to day (and data) is tied to a service that can go away through no fault of my own.

More concerning is how "holy shit my stuff" isn't getting a "holy shit, lets fix that" response, which is seemingly well within their capability.
