Interesting. Clearly (https://github.com/Shpigford/clearly, https://clearly.md) uses XDR (Extreme Dynamic Range) white (and super bright blue) headroom colors in its application icon. You can see this effect – where bright white areas can appear even brighter than standard white – in the Dock and in Quick Look on the .app bundle, but not when viewing AppIcon.icns directly.
