Quite enjoyed the 2-part pilot of #StargateSG1. Looking forward to watching more. Stargate was always one of Corey’s favorite shows, along with Babylon 5. He was always trying to get me to watch it but I never found the time. Maybe now I will.

Kind of exciting not to know every little thing about a sci-fi franchise, not knowing where it will go, etc. Don’t quite understand the logistics of how the gate works exactly but I suppose that’ll come over time.

The second episode of #StargateSG1 was very good. I already really like General Hammond a lot.
Okay #StargateSG1 S1 E6 Cold Lazarus was straight up great. I actually got teary there near the end. Wow.

Watching #StargateSG1 has been very fun so far. About 10 episodes in and every story has been quite compelling. Surprising amounts of character development too in such a short time.

I also love that the SG team isn’t bound by something like the Prime Directive from #StarTrek. They just charge in and do what they need to do. Sometimes that bites them of course but in general the characters have no problems interacting and also interfering with the gate locals. It’s fascinating/refreshing.

Watching #StargateSG1 S1 E10 The Torment of Tantalus - Voted the best episode of season 1 by Gateworld, I’m about 1/2 through and it’s pretty great. Breaking for the Apple Event. Will return soon and finish it!
Just finished #StargateSG1 E14 - Singularity. Holy cow this show. It packs some real emotional punches, I tell you. Amanda Tapping as Captain Carter is just wonderful, her character is growing on me like Stargate moss.

#StargateSG1 S1 E16 - Enigma and I’ve arrived at what I assume is the first of *many* call back episodes. There are now enough stories and world building that the writers can draw on them to return to familar characters and places.

This was another great episode that strengthened my love for both General Hammond and Sam Carter.

“You’re a good man, General.”

Yep, O’Neill, he sure is.

Holy cow S1 E17 - Solitudes of #StargateSG1 was good. And wow, that clever ending! The writing on this series is top notch I will say that. Didn’t see that end coming and I wonder what the implications will be going forward. No spoilers from me though!

S2 E7 of #StargateSG1 ‘Message In A Bottle’ was very fun. Contact meets The Andromeda Strain and yet another story where O’Neill seems doomed but manages to make it out in one piece.

The whole “wild horses” scene between Jack and Teal’c is just awesome. A wonderful moment between fast friends that actually made me misty. 🥹

Bummer. They recast the actress that played Teal’c’s wife in S2 of #StargateSG1. I liked the original actress a lot. On the plus side S2 E8 ‘Family’ was really good.

#StargateSG1 S2 E11 & 12 The Tok’ra are my new favorite episodes of the series so far.

There’s SO MUCH good stuff in this two part story:

• Amazing production design
• Sarah Douglas (Ursa!!)
• Sam’s relationship with Martouf
• ALL THE STUFF with Sam’s dad
• “Piece of cake” callback
• The entire host interview (so good)
• The interpersonal scenes w/ Sam and General Hammond 🥲

Just amazingly well written and plotted. Really looking forward to seeing more of them in the future.

Wow #StargateSG1 S2 E14 Touchstone… I wondered when that second Stargate from Antarctica would make another appearance and boy did it.

It seems the series has a serious dilemma going on that will eventually have to be resolved. Namely how long can the SGC operate freely before the program gets completely taken out of their hands? Been building ever since Maybourne showed up in S1. Guess we’ll find out eventually.

Great ep of #StargateSG1 in S2 E16 A Matter Of Time. The SG team opens a wormhole to a planet being sucked into a singularity & can’t close the gate!

Einsteinian drama ensues & boy what a well-written piece of science fiction it is. 🤓

Good stuff:
• ALL the physics/science stuff
• O’Neill, Hammond & others telling Carter to explain things in non-technobabble terms 😂
• Bye bye titanium iris!
• Days to solve the problem top side due to time dilation (brilliant!)
• Poor red / black shirt dude

After a VERY long hiatus I’m back watching #StargateSG1 and S3 E17 ‘A Hundred Days’ is a new favorite. Col O’Neil is stranded on a distant world when the Stargate there is buried in a meteor strike. After giving up all hope of ever making it home he falls in love with a native woman and starts to settle down just when he is rescued.

Fantastic episode with shades of #StarTrek TNG’s The Inner Light. Teal’C is a standout hero here as is Richard Anderson as usual. Great story & performances!

Boy, the SG1 team sure left a crap load of equipment back on P2X-416, didn’t they? Weapons, ammo, radios, a M.A.L.P., Zat Guns, and even a naquadah reactor. And all in the hands of race of militant humans. Sure hope that doesn’t come back to bite them eventually. 😬

#StargateSG1

Really enjoyed the S3 finale ‘Nemesis’ & the S4 premiere ‘Small Victories’ of #StargateSG1 introducing the new baddies The Replicators. Action packed w/ lots of heartfelt, funny moments. Highlights:

- Teal’c’s goatee!
- O’Neil’s genuine concern for Thor🥹
- Daniel’s line “I just feel so useless. I wish I was going with them.” And Gen Hammond’s reply “Now you know how I feel.”
- Carter HUGGING Thor!!! 🥹🥹🥹

I’m sure this isn’t the last we’ve seen of the Replicators, they’re pretty fun villains.

S4 E5 of #StargateSG1 ‘Divide and Conquer’ took me by surprise. The team searches for a brainwashed assassin within their ranks before a major diplomatic meeting and in the process Jack & Sam must admit how they *really* feel about each other.

- I remember Vanessa Angel from the TV version of Wierd Science. Have not seen her in decades, wow.

- The emotional reveal of O’Neil and Carter’s feeling hits seriously hard. I got misty 🥹

- Wow that person’s unexpected death! Didn’t see that coming. 😱

I understand now why S4 E6 of #StargateSG1 ‘Window of Opportunity’ is a fan favorite. O'Neill and Teal'c are caught in a time loop in the S.G.C., and must relive the same 10 hours over and over again.

This episode made me laugh out loud at least 3 or 4 times. I LOVE the running “Ok, bad example.” joke plus all the Groundhog Day references. This is like #StarTrek TNG’s ‘Cause and Effect’ but 1000x more fun. New fav SG1 episode 10/10
- The juggling!
- The technobabble! 😅
- That KISS!

If Enemy Mine had a baby with #StarTrek TNG’s Darmok you’d get S4 E8 ‘The First Ones. Pretty fun episode, poor Rothman though, he deserved better. #StargateSG1

I have to say one of my favorite aspects of #StargateSG1 is the lack of any kind of Prime Directive. I love how SG-1 and O’Neill have no problem making moral judgments about the societies they encounter and often proceed to interfere when they deem it necessary. Your society is based on slave labor? Nope! Not any more!!

YOU GO, JACK! 🫡👍👊

#StargateSG1 has become quite the comfort food for me of late. Even though every episode is new and unknown to me the show still feels like an old friend when I watch it. #StarTrek has long served this role for me so I’m very glad it’s got some company now.

Stargate is the perfect blend of sci-fi, well written characters, epic scope and humor that makes it a joy to watch when stress is high. Most grateful.

Hmmm two reset button episodes in a row near the end of S4. Not a fan. #StargateSG1
Nearing the end of S4 of #StargateSG1 These last few episodes haven’t been great. Hoping it picks up here in the final few. 😐

I enjoyed S4 E20 ‘Entity’ of #StargateSG1 much more than the previous 4 entries. Pretty standard scifi fare but done really well and with some nice twists and turns.

Though O’Neill’s shoot first, ask questions later mindset is usually wrong, here he’s vindicated. Big time.

More good stuff:
- Amanda Tapping’s ominous, dialog-free delivery
- Teal’c & Worf are brothers from another mother
- A++ Production design - WOW! Cyberpunk cool!
- Won’t someone please think of the M.A.L.P’s!

7.5/10

The #StargateSG1 S4 finale ‘Exodus’ & S5 premier ‘Enemies’ are a great, action packed adventure w/tons of twists & turns. I can imagine how hard it would’ve been to wait months between these episodes ala TNG’s ‘Best of Both Worlds.

- Great SFX w/ tons of spaceship goodness
- Return of the Replicators, yay! Bad bugs, bad!🤖
- AMAZING production & set design
- “It’s the first time I’ve ever blown up a star.”
- Teal’c brainwashed. DUH DUH DUUUUUH!
- Fourth times a charm for 86ing Apophis?

9.5/10

Dude, just inject this into my geeky veins. Sooooo good. 😅🤓🫡 #StargateSG1
Ha! I love that Q himself, John DeLancie has joined #StargateSG1 in S5 and promised to be a thorn in our heroes’ sides. This is going to be fun.

Holy cow! #StargateSG1 S5 E7 ‘Beast of Burden’ is a new favorite. This has all the hallmarks of great scifi including a very Trek feel. A GREAT Daniel J. ep too! SG-1 encounters a pre-industrial world using Unas as slaves & must decide what to do.

• The awesome Larry Drake as the heavy!
• “Why not? We’ve meddled in other societies before!” 😅
• Reverse Planet of the Apes meets Enemy Mine
• O’Neill’s change of heart over the Unas 💕
• Michael Shanks’ Jackson SHINES
• Plot twist ending!!

9/10

As good as E7 was I liked S5 E8 ‘The Tomb’ of #StargateSG1 even more. SG-1 teams up with a squad of Russians to explore an ancient alien temple & learn their comrade’s fate.

Holy cow the set design was AMAZING! Totally impressive on a TV budget. Creepy story and another one where Daniel is in his element. Just a really fun, Tomb Raider meets Alien story.

• Closed caption Russian: “Holy shit.” You can say that again. 😅
• Jennifer Halley as Tolinev 😍
• Perfectly timed escape FTW!

9.5/10

Oh no! The Cylons have infiltrated the SGC! If you took TNG’s Lower Decks and mashed it together with A Ship In The Bottle you’d get something like S5 E12’s Proving Grounds. #StargateSG1

Not a bad story, but just an entirely inconsequential one and helmed by C-level cadets who are not one tenth as interesting as those in Lower Decks.

- Non-surprise twist ending
- Extra grumpy Col O’Neill
- A very young, very unknown Grace Park
- So say we all!

6.5/10

Gen. Hammond just had John DeLancie’s Col Simmons arrested. Have I mentioned I love Gen Hammond? 😅

Somehow I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Q. #StargateSG1

Recognized this halogen desk lamp from tonight’s ep of #StargateSG1 as the very same one that sits on my desk today. Kinda crazy right? Not as crazy as the fact it’s been 23 years and it’s still going strong with the exact same bulb. 😳🤓 Prob jinxed it now though.

When I was watching S5 ep 21 ‘Meridian’ of #StargateSG1 I had no idea this was the ep M. Shanks left the show. Daniel has a lethal dose of radiation & I fully expected him to be back on his feet by the end. Nope. Ooof. 🥺

I totally get why fans were upset when this occurred back in 2002. Daniel is the heart of the show he’s the REASON why SG-1 exists. He and Jack drove the plot.

Performances here, esp Amanda Tapping saying goodbye are incredible. A great but heartbreaking ep of Stargate. 9.5/10

Ooooh! New #StargateSG1 opening credits sequence to kick off S6, so PRETTY! Also, I actually like Jonas Quinn. Wide-eyed and green kinda like Daniel was at the outset. I wonder if he’ll join the team…. Hmmmm. 🤔

Also “Over my dead rotting corpse, General. Wait, did I just say that out loud?”

Gotta love Jack. 😅

I’ve been enjoying S6 of #StargateSG1 but E10 ‘Cure’ was particularly good. SG-1 makes first contact with a planet that’s been exploiting the healing properties of the Goa’uld, or so they think.

A classic #StarTrek morality play in every sense.
- Jonas continues to grow on me. He’s like a lite version of Daniel Jackson
- No shooting! Wow didn’t expect that.
- Symbiotes can reproduce asexually, but still have “Queens”. Huh? 🤔
- Non-stereotypical ending. Very cool.

8/10

I mean, is there anything that Major Sam Carter *can’t* do? I seriously love her. #StargateSG1
Russian red shirts. Neat. #StargateSG1

S6 E20 of #StargateSG1 ‘Memento’ hits a ton of awesome notes & introduces new characters that I really liked. SG-1 and the crew of the Prometheus is stranded across the galaxy and they must enlist the help of a young civilization to literally uncover their own history to get back to Earth.

Robert Foxworth as the leader of the Tagreans does a GREAT job balancing diplomacy with the wonder of meeting aliens for the first time. Ep has shades of TNG’s First Contact. Hope we visit here again.

8/10

I’m well into S7 of #StargateSG1 and I kinda miss Jonas though it’s great to have D. Jackson back. E5 ‘Revisions’ is a little TOS ‘Return of the Archons’ and a little TNG ‘Remember Me’ but a solid, creepy bottle ep. where a town sealed in a bubble is slowly dissapearing but no one can remember it happening.

- O’Neill + kids = Greatness
- Village has shades of EPCOT’s World Showcase 😅
- Never beta test townsfolk in production!
- Love that alien planet day/night always aligns w/ Earth’s 🤔

7.5/10

Loved S7 E8 of #StargateSG1 ‘Space Race’. Wow what a fun episode! Carter gets center stage as she signs on to help an ally win a no-holds bar deep space race. All that was missing was Anakin and his pod racer. 😁

- Say hello to Murray for me!
- Gotta love those cheeky alien TV ads
- Very Babylon 5 feel
- Pretty great SVX for the day
- Thought I saw them pass Tom Paris in the Delta Flyer 😅
- Carter is here to chew bubblegum and kick space-ass and she’s all out of bubblegum

8.5/10

Yet another future #StarTrek Enterprise alum shows up in #StargateSG1 S7 E10’s ‘Birthright’. Jolene Blalock puts in an amazing performance as a strong Jaffa leader & potential love interest for Teal’c and I’m here for it. Great story (by Judge!), well acted and I hope she and her fellow warriors return soon.

- Daniel’s “non-talking” to the young sister 🥰
- Christopher Judge gets to emote and SHINE!
- Ishta kicking Teal’c ass six ways to Sun
- Dr. Fraser is right up there with Dr. McCoy

8.5/10

Wow, Douglas firs in the jungles of Honduras. Who knew? 😅 #StargateSG1
The good news is Jonas Quinn is back for an episode of #StargateSG1. The bad news is he has a new hair stylist. Wow.

E16 S7 of #StargateSG1 Death Knell was fantastic. A cross between Terminator, TOS Arena & Patriot Games. Carter is hunted by a drone while the Tauri, Jaffa & Tok’ra alliance falls apart

GREAT Gen Hammond ep showing why I love him. A leader who cares about those under his command & takes charge

- Sam’s resourcefulness pushed to her limit
- Political intrigue galore!
- Climbing out of the crater formed when the toppled Stargate was activated!
- O’Neill & Carter’s quiet moment together 🥹

9.3/10

Was SO not prepared for what happened in E17 & 18 of S7 #StargateSG1 - Heroes Pt1 & 2. Def the best drama the series has produced over the last several seasons. Can only imagine how fans at the time felt. I was a teary mess. Just wonderfully written, acted and directed all around. All that and Robert Picardo too. Just off the hook great TV. 😭
Ronnie Cox is just SO GOOD at being the bad guy I swear. #StargateSG1
Me watching the 2-part S7 finale of #StargateSG1
Big changes afoot as I start S8 of #StargateSG1. Watched Part 1 of ‘New Order’ and I have some thoughts…
- Teal’c has hair – good for Chris Judge!
- New actress as Dr. Weir. Like the previous one better 🤓
- Now in HD!! Wow Stargate looks SO much better in high-def
- New Goul’d system lords. Very fun!
- I was today years old when I learned that Michael Shanks also plays the voice of Thor. Holy crap!
8.8/10
Human beings can do beautiful, amazing things when we give ourselves the freedom to pursuit them. What an amazing performance of the #StargateSG1 theme this is. The flute solo alone is worth the price of admission. https://youtu.be/rUOEjDbXb7g
Stargate: Going Home | WDR Funkhausorchester

YouTube

Three episodes in and #StargateAtlantis feels very… flat. The premise is interesting but the characters, at least at this early stage aren’t exactly likeable. McKay certainly is no Carter and the rest of the cast, with the exception of the Scottish doctor all feel like the supporting cast of #StarTrek Enterprise. They’re all just… there.

Will have to see if this is worth watching or not. The jury is still out but it’s def not as fun as #StargateSG1

S1 E4 of #StargateAtlantis ‘Thirty Eight Minutes’ is the first ep of the series I’ve really enjoyed. A team’s shuttle gets caught half way through the Stargate event horizon & they have 38 min to solve the problem before the ship is cut in half.

- Love ep centered around the Stargate itself like the #StargateSG1 black hole ep. Super geeky fun.
- Geeked out for the Apollo 13esque “work the problem” scene where they take inventory
- REALLY hope McKay gets less annoying/Debbie Downer 😝

7.8/10

Your friendly neighborhood Teal’c. Cool, cool, cool. #StargateSG1
So #StargateAtlantis is slowly improving as S1 progresses. Seems way Wraith heavy, which is what people have told me. On E8 now and McKay’s still a giant jerk. Meanwhile S8 of #StargateSG1 has been really solid. Still getting used to “General” McNeill and Teal’c with hair but the stories have been solid.
Heh, I knew that wasn’t really General Hammond. #StargateAtlantis #StargateSG1

You gotta love a good evil twin ep and S8 E11 #StargateSG1 ‘Gemini’ has it all in spades. Replicator Carter tricks the real Carter into helping her usurp the replicator leader & help make them invulnerable.

- Great job by Amanda Tapping playing both roles. Subtle differences & performances
- Kudos for not putting Tapping in an overly sexy, evil outfit. 👍
- Nice double twist ending w/ insights into Carter’s character
- Booo the missed opportunity to advance Carter/O’Neill relationship 😕

8.8/10

Yay! Claudia Black just showed up. #StargateSG1
Watched the S8 finale of #StargateSG1 which was a hoot and now I’m on the S1 finale of Stargate Atlantis. I have to say the writing has been very clever tying these two series together. Atlantis has grown on me over the course of the season but I still wish Rodney wasn’t such an ass.
@gedeonm Crackers don't matter.

@gedeonm I really did not enjoy her. Very one-dimensional character up until S10. And even then my least favorite character. Felt very shoehorned into the team.

All that being said, I really enjoyed Don Davis being back for a visit in that episode.

@gedeonm

That episode is too much fun! 😂

Also:
"The name's Olo. Hans Olo."

🤣

@5ciFiGirl
And when he’s watching her on the security camera and mimes squishing her head. Was this when Michael Shanks really started leaning in the funnier side of Daniel? (I know they had been moments before - “What sort of archaeologist carries a gun?” “Um, I do”. “Ok, bad example”)
@gedeonm
@gedeonm I love Vala Maldoran. So unlike Aeryn Sun, yet still utterly Claudia. Like if she played Chiana instead.
@StarkRG ai really enjoyed the little glimpse of her I got in this last episode. She and Shanks were very fun.
@gedeonm Whenever the viewers want the characters to ‘ship’ as the kids once said, that’s the last thing they should do. The tension is what is keeping eyeballs. Niles marry Daphne? Game over.
@Chancerubbage Eh, you can advance the narrative without giving up the ghost as it were. Peter Deliuse prob just didn’t want to go there with this one which was a minor sadness is all.

@gedeonm

I do remember, it sort of existing as an underlying tension that might be teased but but would quickly make a left turn away from that. That is, I don’t remember it approaching Gatsby Green Light lingering pining for the fiords in screen minutes.

It’s been over 15 years since I watched. I was watching DVD collections simultaneous to new episode release, I came to the show late.

More interesting than the film I thought, always.

@gedeonm

Random question: have you ever seen Farscape?

(No reason. 😉)

@5ciFiGirl Yeah. I know Black and Browder show up eventually. Got spoiled on that.
@gedeonm I feel like Atlantis does get a lot better.

@gedeonm all of Stargate is terrific; hang in there.

Stargate Universe was a stinker though.

@gedeonm I think it’s always worth bearing in mind that S08 was originally intended (AIUI) to be. New series, like Stargate Command, but it was decided to stick with the SG-1 name

@gedeonm

Atlantis will just keep getting better imo. 😎

McKay has so much character growth, evolution, and layers over the course of the series. He's actually my favorite, and the reason I've watched Atlantis as many times as I have, lol!

Though, to be fair, I've noticed that people tend to either love McKay or hate him. Not sure I've met anyone in between! 😂

@gedeonm

BTW, did you notice that Teyla's friend Holling is Chris Heyerdahl? Same guy you posted a picture of here? 😉https://mastodon.social/@gedeonm/115602341263163640

@5ciFiGirl Yeah, I thought he was going to be a regular but he’s gone now. Guess he’s relegated to guest stints. That’s too bad. He was more interesting than she is.

@gedeonm

Yeah, Halling shows up a few more times, and then Heyerdahl has a recurring role as a completely different character! (Who is lots of fun!!! 😁)

@gedeonm I think Atlantis took a little bit to find it’s footing but it gets there. Rodney especially gets a lot of character development and eventually gets to beloved socially awkward nerd rather than egotistical blow hard, especially compared to his early SG1 appearances.
@gedeonm It doesn’t take long to ramp up.
@gedeonm You’ve been spoiled with the original series. The spin offs all felt… thin (in my opinion).
@gedeonm It will definitely get much better.

@gedeonm

I couldn’t get into the spinoffs at all.

Also it seemed very heavy in the wraiths.

@gedeonm

Lol, yep, the voice of Thor! 😂 👽 (That's why they *almost* killed off Thor for season 6, but not quite, of course! 😉)

I understand first impressions, but the new Weir might gow on you. 😎

BTW, if you are interested in Atlantis, here is where it starts. After SG-1 8x1&2, you can watch SG:A 1&2. After that they generally line up, so SG-1 8x3 then SG:A 1x3, and so on. (But its flexible, the continuity is only at specific points.)

More details here, if you want:

https://www.gateworld.net/news/2024/09/optimized-stargate-watch-order/

@5ciFiGirl yeah I read that this is the place to start watching Atlantis. May try it. Gonna take twice as long to finish SG-1 but maybe that’s a good thing. Thx.

@gedeonm

More to enjoy! 😁

@gedeonm

Season 2 of Atlantis introduces an early Jason Momoa (badass of course), and in season 4 there is a Teal'c & Momoa teamup! Which is all kinds of epic! 👏

Plus there's more Carter, and eventually more Robert Picardo! 😎

@5ciFiGirl I’m watching the premiere now. Seems okay. Thx for the insights!

@gedeonm

So the last episode I actively watched, MacGyver was on a grey ship or base crawling around for his life.

What season was that?

There were enough changes and spinoffs after that I lost track. But I did buy of the seasons up to then on DVD.

@Chancerubbage Prob S6 or 7 of SG-1

@gedeonm did Anderson leave the show then? Other cast changes?

Did Anderson return?

Was Anderson an executive producer on the show?

Oh thanks, never mind ::reads wiki::

Ok apparently Anderson tapered off episode appearances during the 8th season.

There were also studio and home media distribution changes for the production company around then, and the spin-offs occuring with Anderson’s appearances becoming cameos. And I lost track. That was around 2004, thought I was watching until 2009.

@gedeonm Capt. Jellico was somethin’ else
@gedeonm one of the better ones of S7. Good story, RDA actually feels present despite his reduced schedule this season, and I like that it doesn’t exactly end on a high note. Buckle up for the next couple episodes…
@MacDevil Oooooh. Roger that!
@MacDevil Wow, you were not kidding. Crying like a baby over here. OMG.
@gedeonm Yeah it was a real gut punch the first time I saw it.
@gedeonm
And in Winspit Quarry in Dorset you may find a portal to the planet Skaro.
#DoctorWho
#Daleks :-)
#FilmingLocations

@gedeonm you keep reminding me that SG-1 was in class by itself.

I hope the new series will be able to come close.
I hope…
