Religion: Free, but there are rules
Internet: Free, but now everything is 100x worse

@Daojoan "Therapist: $200/session"

😱 For real? What kind of dollars? USD? Australian? Canadian?

@DavidBHimself @Daojoan

That’s the missing „but“, you will be depressed cause get in dept

@DavidBHimself Health insurance in the United States almost never pays (or even helps pay) for therapy. You pay entirely out of pocket.

@Daojoan

@roknrol You mean, even if you have health insurance? Oh goodness.

@Daojoan

@DavidBHimself Oh yes. Health insurance *might* pay for precisely two visits.

One to be diagnosed.

One to be given a prescription.

They aren't interested in helping people or in helping people fix themselves, only to drug folks *just enough* to squeeze some more capital out of them.

@Daojoan

@roknrol @DavidBHimself @Daojoan my insurance only covers mental health after you meet the deductible. Many providers offer discounts if you can't afford it, but that was still $75 for 45 minutes. The normal rate is $225.

Thankfully, I have an HSA that is partially matched by my employer to make up the difference.

@jrdepriest @DavidBHimself @Daojoan You must have pretty good insurance then. I have checked with each ins co that I've had for like the last ten years...answer is always the same - two visits. No further coverage for anything beyond meds.

Congrats on finding a 'good' one...if you need it, use it.

@DavidBHimself @Daojoan
Back in the 80s, I paid 20k total in one year for therapy. Now if you are below the poverty line you can get some free therapy in a blue state, but you don't have much choice and it's limited visits.
@Daojoan You gotta love US defaultism. I got plenty of answers, but not one actually answering my question. But that non-answer was the answer. 🤷‍♂️
