Can you trust #Flathub?

It is a centralized repository (one of the reasons why people hate #Snap packages), and this aspect creates significant problems: It's not reliable, and it can leave you to your fate at any time and for any reason.

There are no mirrors. You can't be confident that the #software you usually use will be available at the next day.

This is why I stopped using it a couple of months ago. This is also why I don't use #Ubuntu.

Any solutions? You can stop using Flathub and Snaps. It's an opportunity to look into the #Appimage format, maybe.

I'll leave the final decision up to you.

#Cisco has just decided to block software downloads from Russia and Ukraine. As a result, this removes the ability to install almost any program from #Flathub, because #OpenH264 is a mandatory dependency.

You can read the discussion on #GitHub here:

I found v00d00m4n's thoughts very interesting, despite the contradictory reactions to them.

To summarize from my perspective, #FLOSS shouldn't be restricted by geopolitical reasons, because it violates the entire community and its collaboration, which is simply about developing cool programs that everyone should be able to enjoy.

(PS: I prefer to avoid political discussions, so you likely won't see many posts like this)

See you next time!
