Yo, I heard you liked trucks so I put a truck on your truck.

They were celebrating Bedford trucks this year, and lots of Bedfords came along.

#WeirdCarMastodon #CarShow #Truckshow

Lots and lots of Bedfords, in all shapes and sizes.

More Bedford trucks!

It kept lightly raining on and off during the day, so the sky keeps changing in these shots.

This is a commercial vehicle show, and that also means buses!

What a commitment, to privately own a bus. You need a heck of a lot of room to store one.

Chryslers really don't seem to have any shared design language to them.

One for @KiwiEV an EV Chrysler! I like seeing more classics being converted.

The SES put on a demonstration, showing how they remove a driver from a vehicle post crash. It was an excellent display.

@mcSlibinas The Commer owners tend to have boards up to explain their wacky motors 😀

@vwdasher
Gorgeous blue color on that wagon!
@vwdasher seeing RHD versions of old Yank Tanks and Australian Chryslers that look nothing like US models makes me think alternate universe.
@vwdasher we love a Buffalo bus, don't we folks? Though, if I had my druthers, a Scenicruiser has better lines.
@swelljoe I love the Flxibles! Photos coming soon. Fabulous shape, all that chrome inside, just lovely.

@vwdasher Flxibles are the most collectible, I think, amongst conversion bus fanatics. Some friends bought a very rough 60s Flxible and traveled in it for a year or two.

My favorite bus, and the one I think I'd buy if I were wanting to do a conversion, is the GM PD-4103.

Flxible has the benefit (or negative, depending on your perspective) of being relatively rare, so collectors value them pretty highly. And, there are certainly some gorgeous ones.

@swelljoe I was talking to a chap at a swap meet a few months ago and he was telling he'd imported this, a Sauer tour bus. I asked him to bring it along but it didn't come, may be due to the bad weather. I do hope to see it sometime, only one in Australia. And look how cool this is! Brought over from Switzerland.

That GM is gorgeous!

@vwdasher "LOST" 😄

This is wild, who would buy an old bus and put it on club plates?

@literatesavant there are a LOT of people who love old buses! I love it, what a commitment! I have more bus photos coming.
@vwdasher
That is a weird 1953 International truck.
Looks like someone stuck a coupe roof on my truck.
@MillerTimeGarage don't forget, these are Australian ones and probably built here for different purposes.
@vwdasher I've found it interesting that Melbourne doesn't have many or any big ladder trucks like you see in America. Here's an articulated one, with rear steering done by the guy in the cab at the back. You should see them fling this around tight corners. That ladder can reach up 100 feet. It's so big I had to take two pictures.
@literatesavant I know, there must be some reason for it. You see the ladder trucks here but they're much smaller, and not at all stations.
@vwdasher I used to know some firefighters when I lived in SF, but I'm not in touch with them anymore. Obviously they have tall buildings there, but even a small town would have at least one big ladder truck. Here's one from my hometown. This is also 100 feet, just not articulated. Practically I'm guessing that a 100 foot ladder could access up to an 8 story building.
@literatesavant that is a big arse truck!
@vwdasher my guess is that it's partly historic. Fire, and fire fighting, are kind of a big part of American culture. Heroics and stuff. Numerous movies made about them. I think these days it's very rare for them to be pulling people from the windows of burning multi-story buildings.
@literatesavant I think it's also new tech means ladders can be smaller.
@vwdasher @literatesavant we have a fair few aerial platforms, I’ve spotted a couple of Bronto Skylifts at Fire Rescue Victoria. They don’t need articulation because they’re seriously extensible bucket trucks
@ThermiteBeGiants @literatesavant ah there you go, thank you!
@vwdasher @ThermiteBeGiants ah yes, I've seen that type of thing. But it looks like it's more used to get a hose up high. An American firefighter wouldn't like the idea of having to raise and lower the whole bucket for each person rescue.
@vwdasher @literatesavant We ask our ladder trucks to do slightly different things here in America. Ours carry a lot of portable ladders and rescue equipment, which aerials in the rest of the world usually don’t. (Rest of the world just distributes the equipment differently.). Thus equally large ladders but smaller trucks.
@mack505 @literatesavant ah ok! Any reason why the difference? Or just how things have evolved?
@vwdasher @literatesavant Evolution I think. Just like how the rest of the world had four door cabs in the ‘40s but we didn’t adopt them until the ‘90s. Different priorities.
