Excitement in bed last night....

Spouse was stung by a scorpion!

(Have never ever even seen one in the wild, let alone been stung by one. It was only about an inch long, but the sting hurt a lot. He's fine this morning.)

@anathema_device A scorpion was IN THE BED??
@purplepadma yes. On him, technically. He felt it on his neck (whence it came, I don't know), brushed it off, and the little bugger got him. Very strange
@anathema_device wow! We have heaps of them out here, easily found hiding under rocks / bricks / pieces of wood. I've never been stung by one though. (Australian Scorpions are mostly harmless, which at least is something)

@david it is something :)

I just have never seen one (and still haven't since spouse removed it toot sweet before I saw it). I don't make a habit of looking under rocks and such, because of my childhood training to avoid such places because of red-backs and similar

@anathema_device The ones we get look like this: https://www.flickr.com/photos/dadegroot/47932272213/in/photolist-2g2BqAr

Very pretty blue and brown fellows.

(and I have confirmed, they do indeed glow under UV light at night).

@anathema_device whatever you need to do to keep the magic alive
@anathema_device My extensive knowledge gleamed from 80's movies have led me to believe being stung by a scorpion is a sure death sentence. Your partner must have amazing constitution.
@IBLiveU God doesn't want him :)
@anathema_device not wanted by upstairs is ok, as long as downstairs doesn't lay a claim.

@anathema_device

Apparently if you go stir up some leaf litter at night around here, you spot lots if you have a UV light. As they glow.

But I have never seen one in the wild either.

@anathema_device not to startle you, but keep an eye out for unexpected side effects. https://lindamciver.wordpress.com/2025/07/10/expecting-the-unexpected/
Expecting the Unexpected

This is a long story, much longer than my usual posts. It feels like months, but most of it took place over four days. If medical details unsettle you, I recommend you skip this one and go find you…

@wezm yes, I'm aware of that. But he is his usual irritating self so I assume he's not going to die or anything. Unfortunately :)
@anathema_device same 80s movies taught me the smaller the scorpion, the worse the sting
@jlm yes, that's bollocks
@anathema_device “fine” lasts about three days, and then the superpowers start manifesting
@Unixbigot I look forward to that. I hope one of them is good manners :)
@anathema_device When I lived in the boondocks of Cave Creek, a neighbor was bit on his thigh by a bark scorpion when he was in bed. He was on crutches for a couple weeks.

@Axomamma yikes. Yeah, there are some nasty critters in your country as well as ours
