I’m happy to announce that Mona 7 will be available on the App Store later this year as a new app. I’ll share more details, including upgrade pricing, with you very soon.
To make Mona’s magical Mastodon experience accessible to even more people, I’m pleased to announce that starting with Mona 7, features that help people share and engage — posting with photos and videos, favoriting, and reposting — will be free for everyone.
@MonaApp I still argue those that bought the lifetime purchase should not have to repurchase. We bought it in good faith Now you want to charge us for new features This is not right!!!!!!

@Dennislong82 @MonaApp Thinking this way is why many developers decide to remove the one-time payment and charge a subscription. Obviously, paying the full price might not be ideal, but I do believe it's fair to pay "something" for an update.

Applications like Reaper charge for the license again when they upgrade to a newer version, and that's how they continue to support their work.

If you don't want to pay, you can stay on version 6 and be done with it. Or would you prefer to pay a subscription?

@iam @MonaApp I expect to get what I paid for. I paid for pro max. If I paid for that the selling point was pay once and have no upgrade fees. I expect to get what was promised!!!! Again you think these things out prior to launch. You don't promise no upgrade fees if you plan on charging in the future.
@Dennislong82 @MonaApp I paid for the Pro Max and I don't recall that plan promising no additional cost for major upgrades. Do you have a screenshot that says something like that?
@Dennislong82 yes I agree with this. while I don't have a license/purchase, if you promise something, you should keep it. it's like jaws, exploiting the blind by making you pay basically just to use your computer. mind you, mastodon is a free network. I have a free and open source application, when I do use an app. they don't pull any bowlshit like this
@Dennislong82 mind you, some corporations even do this. for example, ubiquiti with the unifi networking equipment let you keep using it, just 1 purchase. you only need a subscription if you want better cyber security, or if you want any of their cloud services. it's yours for the lifetime that you have it. same goes for netgate with their networking products: pay once, get PFSense plus for the lifetime.
also, mona is just a gateway to mastodon. it offers nothing o value other than what the web version and free and open source alternatives offer
in my opinion, if you're not doing anything for me other than what the other free alternatives do, you don't deserve pay. you have no "proprietary" tech that is,say, hosting a mastodon server for me. you're not, say, providing mobile data through an ESim as part of the purchase. you're not cleaning my house or cooking thanks giving dinner. you're just a mastodon app clone/gateway, which, again, has much better free and open source alternatives. you only get payment if you provide me a service that no other can provide, not if you're providing me a service others already are providing better
@MonaApp this is definitely a good thing.
@MonaApp I bought the pro/max version for Mona six. Does this mean I have to buy that again for each major version release? That could get pretty expensive. But, I do like supporting developers.
@MonaApp Thanks for sharing this news. I have a request: my instance now runs on 4.5.
Would you please implement a option to respect a users wish not to be quoted?
Currently Mona uses a "workaround" to quote anyway using a different way. I would like to respect such a wish, or better: would be able to.
@MonaApp Am I missing something? The dev said lifetime purchases would be honored. I didn’t read anything stating that those who paid would have to pay again.
@MonaApp Will you still maintain version 6? I don't mean features, will you keep it working when Mastodon changes its protocol and the rules for the App Store change?
@eschy Yeah, I still plan to update Mona 6 from time to time. It's still a great option for people who don't like the Liquid Glass design on iOS 26.
@MonaApp Nice, thanks for the info. 👍

@MonaApp @eschy Oh so you DON’T upgrade the UI in version 6?

That’s FANTASTIC news 😀👍🙏

@MonaApp Honestly? I have no problem paying for an upgrade considering the amount of work that’s gone into the development of this app. The developer as far as I know is firmly against subscriptions, and he has to make money somehow. As long as the cost is reasonable, I’m very happy to support him.
@MonaApp I purchased a lifetime license for Mona, not for Mona 6 or Mona 5 or Mona 4. It's fraud to make that license obsolete. What you need to do is not offer some features for free, but if the AI has a cost, offer that extra feature for a small fee. But greed gets the better of you.
@MonaApp Any chance of adding Bluesky support?
@MonaApp Moana 7 is looking great from my limited testing thus far.
@MonaApp Will there be upgrade pricing for Pro Max subscribers?
@mikec415 Yes, special discount will be offered.
