I’m happy to announce that Mona 7 will be available on the App Store later this year as a new app. I’ll share more details, including upgrade pricing, with you very soon.
To make Mona’s magical Mastodon experience accessible to even more people, I’m pleased to announce that starting with Mona 7, features that help people share and engage — posting with photos and videos, favoriting, and reposting — will be free for everyone.
@MonaApp I still argue those that bought the lifetime purchase should not have to repurchase. We bought it in good faith Now you want to charge us for new features This is not right!!!!!!
@Dennislong82 yes I agree with this. while I don't have a license/purchase, if you promise something, you should keep it. it's like jaws, exploiting the blind by making you pay basically just to use your computer. mind you, mastodon is a free network. I have a free and open source application, when I do use an app. they don't pull any bowlshit like this
@Dennislong82 mind you, some corporations even do this. for example, ubiquiti with the unifi networking equipment let you keep using it, just 1 purchase. you only need a subscription if you want better cyber security, or if you want any of their cloud services. it's yours for the lifetime that you have it. same goes for netgate with their networking products: pay once, get PFSense plus for the lifetime.
also, mona is just a gateway to mastodon. it offers nothing o value other than what the web version and free and open source alternatives offer
in my opinion, if you're not doing anything for me other than what the other free alternatives do, you don't deserve pay. you have no "proprietary" tech that is,say, hosting a mastodon server for me. you're not, say, providing mobile data through an ESim as part of the purchase. you're not cleaning my house or cooking thanks giving dinner. you're just a mastodon app clone/gateway, which, again, has much better free and open source alternatives. you only get payment if you provide me a service that no other can provide, not if you're providing me a service others already are providing better
