Good morning from Elsevier. When I open my inbox to be greeted by this, I know the time has come to leave academia. It is rotten to the core, and totally lost sight of its *telos*. Read the article if you like. It is a lost delusion. States "AI is a tool" multiple times. It's not. Its a pattern matching text generator. (Jon Dron wrote a great piece on this recently.)

@DrPen perhaps you missed the point? first, text generators can be tools (wearher you like it or not). second, they repeatedly state there is no replacement for human judgement. and last, what they insinuate is kind of worse than what you suggest: they are talking about using it "responsibly" and immediately state that their current policies forbid you to give (or make?) your manuscript with LLM, bit they will be more than happy to feed it there...

@DrPen ok, i read it. i don't see where the statement you claim (llm's are not tools) is proven there. it seemed more like a free flowing mind dump than some structured argument.
