Are you allergic to LaTeX? This pharmacy I'm at has this allergy warning. #latex
@Doveux yes. Allergies to strange word processors, touching grass and fruit..... Are they describing pirates there?
@Doveux can't really blame anyone to react to *that* kind of LaTeX, can you? 😅
Judging from the typography, that pharmacy is indeed allergic to LaTeX!
@Doveux @gigabecquerel Actually I am a great LaTeX lover…
@Doveux We should be thankful that they didn't use a gimpsuit for visualisation.
this may sound silly but its very important if you want to buy either medical gloves or condoms, don't want a rash there!
@organ-harvest-coordinator @Doveux That’s for latex the material. The flyer instead uses the logotype for the LaTeX project, which is a software system for typesetting documents. It’s common in academic publishing because it allows good layout of complex math, and also of multiple mixed languages (e.g, inserting a Devanagari passage in an otherwise English paragraph).
@bob_zim @organ-harvest-coordinator @Doveux
It being on the poster almost has to be an intentional joke, right?
Pharmacists probably run across LaTeX in university?
To be fair this is my first time hearing about it, so maybe it's just my school not using / mentioning it. Could be an intentional refrence though if that is the case for schools / universities in other places!

@Doomed_Daniel @organ-harvest-coordinator @Doveux I doubt it. LaTeX isn’t as common in chemistry or med school. Those make more use of chemical drawing software to create an image, which then goes in a WYSIWYG word processor.

Plus, flyers like this are often put together by a pharmacy tech or office manager.

@bob_zim @Doomed_Daniel @organ-harvest-coordinator @Doveux Almost surely they just asked a chatbot to make the poster and this was the hilarious result.
@bob_zim @Doomed_Daniel @organ-harvest-coordinator @Doveux I used that in chemistry class in highschool, embedded into MS Word with OLE ...
@organ-harvest-coordinator you are absolutely right. The joke here is that they used the logo of the LaTeX typesetting software: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaTeX

@Doveux I wrote my Ph.D using LaTeX, and during that time, I found many people allergic to it 😂
@Doveux Sometimes, when I touch it, my arms swell and feel like an overfull \vbox (6.0pt too high) detected at my elbow.
@Doveux Shared with the poor souls I know who still have to work with LaTeX!
@Doveux I wouldn't call it an allergy, more of a mild intolerance that borders on intense dislike when I have to fit within a page limit.
@Doveux someone was forced to code this document in LaTeX i feel.

@Doveux

So that pharmacy can't help with my MS-Word allergy, can they?

@Doveux
I would probably throw a fit and go to another one
@Doveux sending this to everyone I know who has a graduate degree lol
@Doveux "Yes, doctor. As soon as I see \documentclass my nose starts running. By the time I reach \begin{document} I develop this itchy rash..." :-)

@Doveux

My allergy to Word is much worse

@Doveux I see what they mean, but please... I am allergic to MS Word
@pusteblume @Doveux
The Word allergy would cause a queue in the street, around the next corner, perhaps even the next block, of people needing help. 🤣
@Doveux Underfull hboxes give me a rash, it's terrible
@Doveux So many people are allergic to LaTeX. I know I am.
@Doveux I'd love to know if this was done knowingly or just due to slop...
@Doveux As good a time as any to share the story of my dear roommate who first started using LateX when we began our graduate studies. After a week or so of diligently typing up his quantum chemistry notes, he told me that he should really read up on and get around to "compiling" it. Can you imagine the look on my face
@Doveux allergic to Late X, formerly known as Twitter?
@Doveux I did try it once decades ago but it gave me quite an irritating headache.
@Doveux "Good morning Sir, how may I help you?"
"Hello, I am allergic to Word."
@Doveux I certainly have an overfull hbox so yes definitely
@Doveux I am so glad people are starting to wake up to the pain and suffering that affects so many of us. My hands start shaking the second I have to edit a .tex file. My eyes begin twitching uncontrollably every time I am forced to sit through another set of ugly slides put together using beamer. Any mention of LaTeX compels, nay, forces me to start ranting about "Stockholm syndrome" despite me knowing that real Stockholm syndrome does not exist. This affliction is real and it needs to be talked about!
@Doveux Ok i know i said i would learn how to use LaTeX like AWHILE back, but this direct call-out of me seems wildly unnecessary on their part!
@Doveux ask your doctor about typst!
@Doveux they used LaTeX with a script that gets the first image from the search result on google

@Doveux

Is CSS-based typesetting hypoallergenic? 🤔

@Doveux Yes, I'm stuck using PostScript directly
@Doveux LaTeX is actually the only thing that helps my MS word intolerance. 🤷
@Doveux No but i have a Markdown allergy /j
@Doveux I'm allergic to Strawberry Perl.
@Doveux some people definitely have an allergy to touching grass. 🥲

@Doveux LaTeX and @grassgis - perfect combo.

But for some people deadly combination
