I also have such boxes, on top of the USB cable one another with almost every kind of computer memory known to man.
As with cables never the correct one for the obscure laptop I have been asked to install Linux on.
I find exactly that type of memory days after returning the laptop,
in another box containing assorted graphics cards :-).
What an excellent idea! There's one place you never have to look when searching for a cable. 🤯
In the days of LAN-parties I had a sportsbag full of random cables, internal and external that always followed along. At every single congregation of more than one computer-nerd there are someone having problems with a computer and often I got rid of a cable or five each time.
@eq Always good to give things a home. 👍
And yet, I wonder how many cables get thrown out or recycled without ever having been used. 🙁
@mike yes, this is exactly my situation.
Few years ago, USB-C were scarce resource and micro USB were abundant. Now if I am looking for micro USB, they are suddenly unavailable...
@mike I sorted my special box and put all cables of the same type into a transparent bag and labeled them.
This makes it much faster to say: I don't have the cable I need 😄
I'm sure I have more USB cable types than there are USB plug standards. _Still_ always missing the one I need.
@mike @lisamelton Oh! I’ve got the cable you’re missing at the moment. It’s right here in *my* cable drawer(s).
<minutes go by, tension increases>
…wait. Hold on. Looks like I’ve got every one but *that* one. Huh.
