This is so indefensibly insane: Speaker Johnson is refusing to seat Congresswoman-elect Adelita Grijalva because she'll be the 218th vote to release the Epstein files. Johnson swore in Rep Walkinshaw (VA) w/in 24 hours.

Johnson is abandoning his job to instead protect a convicted child sex predator. Every journalist should be asking him this on repeat.

@QasimRashid
I wouldn't have guessed that Big Pedophilia is a substantial political contributor. Perhaps Johnson's service to the cause reflects deeply held personal beliefs instead 😐
@QasimRashid to be fair, they're protecting many sex predators.

@QasimRashid
This is what happens when the rules are written with the assumption that everyone will act in good faith

If the speaker refuses to perform their duties they should automatically lose their seat. 🛸

@lonelystone @QasimRashid >> This is what happens when the rules are written with the assumption that everyone will act in good faith

When you get down to it, that’s a baseline assumption in all rules in all forms of government and they all kind of fall apart eventually.

@MisuseCase @lonelystone @QasimRashid

Agree. At this point, I think the logical thing to do is remove cishet males from all forms of power. They're had thousands of years to get it right and have consistently fucked up and done genocides over and over. It's clear that they suck at the job.

Not sure women would do better but we should definitely give it a go while the bar is this low.

(This comment somewhat tongue in cheek but strongly correlates to the available data)

@obscurestar @MisuseCase @lonelystone @QasimRashid history shows several vicious, ruthless, female dictators. Not having a dick doesn’t prevent someone from becoming one. Spread out the power to the masses and they will peacefully wield it, consolidate it down and eventually someone will have enough that they don’t need to compromise. Then they’ll want it all.
@QasimRashid
they will continue to use all levers of power at their disposal
@briankrebs

@QasimRashid I don’t understand why/how speaker Johnson has the “power” to decide who gets seated or not. She was elected, she gets sworn in as part of the process of winning the election.

How is it up to him?

@grammasaurus @QasimRashid Apparently Mike Johnson decided that they will seat the new congressperson at the start of the next session instead of immediately (something they've done for Republicans). How that effects the release of the Epstein files, other than a delay, depends on whether one needs an extra vote before some specific date.

@bzdev @QasimRashid I understand what he claims, but I don’t still don’t think he has the power that he claims.

The whole point of a special election is to fill a vacant seat for the rest of the term, not “starting at some arbitrary date that I have chosen for ….. reasons”

@grammasaurus @QasimRashid Actually, Johnson can do that: it is just hypocritical. He claims he'll swear the new member in as soon as the House is in a regular session, which is when that
occurs historically.

The hypocrisy is that he's made exceptions for Republicans.

@bzdev @QasimRashid “just” hypocritical 🤣

The GOP is never working “in good faith” so I don’t trust them any farther than I can throw them.

@grammasaurus @QasimRashid
It is not unreasonable to wait until the next day Congress is in session before swearing in a new member - during a scheduled break, the speaker may be out of town (e.g., to meet with his constituents back home). What is hypocritical is applying one set of rules to Republicans and another to Democrats.
@QasimRashid What happens when our system of government allows the election of insurrectionists to enable #TheHeadScalawag. A great example that corruption undermines, neuters, any system of government. Laws become meaningless deceptions, as they are only used to give blessed entities advantages and herd the sheep.
@QasimRashid Dude, you said everyone should elect Trump and now you're mad? Wasn't it more important to elect him because Harris was going to be "just as bad"...? I mean, that's what we heard for 90 days and you recently have blasted dems again. Not sure why you pretend now to care about Trump's victims, they didn't matter in November to you.
My other account never got a reply - just a block. It's weird how we were all told we can't vote for Harris (because we were told she was Biden when she wasn't) and you can't engage on this topic.. but you can block people who are critical. Weird how that works.

@leeloo Why would you demand this when you really just mean to defend it? You don't care about evidence, you mean to argue that Harris was as bad - that's your point in replying.
@leeloo Let's skip to the end, you're going to ignore Trump and focus on Gaza and Biden. You'll keep telling me about Harris and how she was no different or didn't distinguish herself despite doing so. You'll never admit to supporting electing Trump, you'll pretend there was a viable third option. Like QR, you'll keep ignoring what's happening right now in Gaza, how Trump tells Bibi to finish the job - none of that is important, what happened in 2023, 2024, that must always be brought up forever
Citation? Trump won!

No one needs a fucking CITATION FOR THIS

@LaNaehForaday They are from the pro-fascist in the name of Gaza folk - they still go around saying Harris would have been worse for Gaza and it's disgusting.

@QasimRashid it's kinda funny that the current day Republican party is so cartoonishly evil that they're exposing actual loopholes in the constitution

like what if the ruling party simply only swears in representatives of their own party, or tells new reps they'll only be sworn in it they vote a certain way

@jackie @QasimRashid
Is it a loophole when it's just 'a majority can just choose not to enforce laws'?

@QasimRashid

They closed down the government to keep from RELEASING THESE FILES.

It IS the reason.

@QasimRashid Nobody ever told him about Powell v. McCormack?
@QasimRashid effectively denying the people's will.

@QasimRashid

It is simply criminal…

Really people? You are letting these people protect a child predator? Disgusting! All for what? You don’t like DEI? Respecting others? Just so you have a chance to let all those racist, homophobic and transphobic things out you have been wanting to say.

@QasimRashid

This is, and has been, their playbook going back to at least Merrick Garland.

They will stall and/or refuse to do their job if it undermines their actual loyalties.

@QasimRashid They are literally willing to die on that hill. 🙄🙄🙄
@QasimRashid Reminds me of how the GOP refused to bring Merrick Garland’s SCOTUS nomination before the senate.
@QasimRashid this shit has pissing me off so much and it feels like the major media companies have already forgotten about the files

@QasimRashid

I wish the scuttlebutt about Johnson's johnson being on Grindr had more teeth...

@QasimRashid

The Government is currently shutdown and:

- Johnson refuses to seat a duly elected Congress person
- Congress isn't even in session today
- The Senate adjourned without a budget vote
- The President has nothing on his official schedule after 11am

It's a regular Thursday in October and millions of Americans are working, save for those maybe observing Yom Kippur, but our elected officials aren't working. We all would get fired it we worked like Congress ... it's time to fire them too.

@QasimRashid The answer as to why Colonel CovenantEyes is doing this is simple: Bcuz womban

@QasimRashid

considering his prior experience, I'd say that's exactly why he was hired in the first place.

Protect rich old men's 'God-given Right' to young bodies.

@QasimRashid

I wish Hakeem Jeffries could swear her in himself in the presence of whoever shows up - proly no Repugs since Johnson sent them all home for an unearned, strategic vacay in order to stymie any further debate or negotiations w/ Dems on the budget - and then conduct a vote on the discharge petition.

Speaker Johnson is abusing the powers of his office in repeated, undisguised efforts to defeat the democratic process.

This traitor must not be allowed to succeed.

#USpol

@QasimRashid Is Speaker Johnson in the Epstein files?
@aadeacon @QasimRashid Ask his teenage son, they seem to know a lot about each other's sex lives
