Hmm, maybe they can keep the river from mysteriously turning an unnatural color of green every so often.

@ai6yr oh great, there goes my plan to work as a Chicago area dishwasher by navigating all the Great Lakes and sneaking up the Chicago River.

@AlexanderVI @ai6yr I learned from an Iraqi friend of mine that Chicago is treated as a border town by ISE and DHS and that they have special abilities to stop people and ask for papers because of it. Even citizens should really be carrying passports at all times in #Chicago.

I think the excuse is that #ORD is an international airport. Maybe? Or maybe it's because there are two many black and hispanic people here for the white racist cowards to feel comfortable without the power to stop them.

@poleguy @AlexanderVI @ai6yr it's probably because Chicago is within 100 miles of the border

Know Your Rights | 100 Mile Border Zone | ACLU

The Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution protects people from random and arbitrary stops and searches. Although the federal government claims the power to conduct certain kinds of warrantless stops within 100 miles of the U.S. border, important Fourth Amendment protections still apply.

@ai6yr @r0k @poleguy @AlexanderVI You know what, though, I don’t think we are! Lake Michigan is entirely inside the US border (unlike the other Great Lakes) and Windsor is 237 miles away.
@mazz @ai6yr @r0k @AlexanderVI I trust the immigrant who told me. I don't think any of us no matter how white we look have the liberty at this point to not carry a passport at all times.
@mazz @ai6yr @r0k @AlexanderVI And the ACLU website says "Most of the 10 largest cities in the U.S., such as New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago, fall in this region."

@mazz @ai6yr @r0k @poleguy @AlexanderVI

They're claiming that the shoreline of the Great Lakes is an external boundary, and that 100 miles is reasonable distance.

#AfterFascism we have to amend that statute, now that we know how #fascists can wield it as a weapon.

@BlueDot @mazz @ai6yr @r0k @AlexanderVI it was bad for this very reason in the first place.
