This morning, during some chaos, this zipped by on one of my feeds. Maybe it was here? Maybe it was BlueSky? Hard to overstate how much this made my day.

@mcnees ahhhh... classic beaver hijinx
@mcnees Let beavers do their thing!
@mcnees I'm a beaver believer!

@dokas
Do they have a bridge to fediverse?

@mcnees @igb

@darkcat09 As far as I know, no. She’s on a ton of social media but alas, I don’t think here.
@mcnees Leave it to beaver 😏
@mcnees
As with all teams that produce good results the bureaucrats at the top took the performance bonuses for themselves and fired the beavers who did the actual work
@mcnees Saw it on Bsky this morning. A nice thing to know :)
@mcnees I saw something like that here
These eager beavers saved the Czech government $1.2 million

After plans stalled for a new dam in the Czech Republic, eight beavers saved the day seemingly overnight. “At this point, nothing that beavers do surprises me.”

Beavers know better. They saved the Czech government $1 million!

@mcnees archetypal under-funded public officials getting it done with what they can muster from existing resources and infrastructure
When a few beavers do a better and faster job than an entire country can lol
@IlostTheGame welcome to the country where you have to fill in form to complain on filling too much forms. God we love bureaucracy and we will make the hell out of it!
Which reminds me, did these beavers ask for building permission along with neighbours permissions and other 40 organizations assent? 🤔

@j4n3z oh no, that sounds like nightmares I've had 🫠Some bureaucracy is unavoidable but at some point it just gets ridiculous. For some reason I'm reminded of that book Bullshit Jobs.

I don't think they did, someone might have to go fill out a form to complain!

@mcnees that is the best dam news ever
@mcnees so the Czech government said “Leave it to Beaver” to fix their ecological problems.

@knowattitude @mcnees The (engineered) creek right by my home has a beaver dam now, and it’s a glorious sight! It’s led to some nice improvements in the local ecosystem in just a couple years, it’s probably a good part of the reason my wife and I got to see a blue heron catch and eat a fish one morning a couple months ago.
@mcnees mfw the gov here is so damn incompetent the fucking beavers have to do their job
@mcnees the world-changing power of local volunteer work.
@mcnees And those damn beavers did it for free!

Beaver engineered dam in the Czech Republic

dam built by beavers in the Czech Republic

@mcnees Those beavers deserve the Czech equivalent of a Congressional Medal of Honor!
@mcnees is this the one where the beavers built their dam in the exact same place the engineers had planned to build one?
@mcnees They have their own bureaucracy for sure. And if they need it, they build it, even in spite of human government savings.
@mcnees very similar occurrence in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park last century

@mcnees I have seen this before and as I mostly only use mastodon, it was very likely around here.
@mcnees I heard about exactly this thing on a podcast a couple of months ago, it's kind of funny how things like this suddenly resurfaces :)
