This is exactly why we need UBI and universal healthcare! Think about how many brilliant and talented people there are out there who would work on these projects because they passionately believe in them, who are prevented from contributing because we're all scrabbling to subsist and survive. 💔😭

The Parliament of Estonia is orders of magnitude smarter than whoever is in the Parliament of Canada (including Mark Carney).

Europe should regulate Big Tech instead of banning kids from social media, Estonia says

Banning kids from social media won’t work, as they “will find very quickly the ways to go around and to still use social media,” Estonian Education Minister Kristina Kallas said.

I am so angry and disappointed at all the left- and center-wing commentators who bought into the right-wing framing of "parent's rights" as being more important than children's rights.

Like, I'm sorry, but parents have *responsibilities to* kids, not *rights over* kids. Kids aren't property, they're living, breathing *people* who deserve care and love and privacy and dignity.

"Vaccine-preventable respiratory infections sending thousands to hospital, all while vaccine uptake is dropping"

Look at what happened with Claude Code. We learned via the source code leak that the whole thing is a Rube Goldberg machine of shoddy regexes and Markdown snippets telling Claude to lie, and yet proverbial moments later, Anthropic announces a new product that *totally works this time I swear* and all of a sudden discourse about AI tools "working" is completely reset.

Getting stuck in that discourse loop opens you up to being perpetually distracted from the far more important ethical problems.

For the first time in New York State history: a tax on pied-à-terres.

NYC Mayor Mamdani just negotiated a landmark agreement, any second home in NYC valued at $5M+ will now be taxed at a higher rate. This means money back to the people, not billionaires who treat the city like a luxury storage unit.
