Cruel Dolphin Hunt – Stop It Now

Another tragic day has unfolded in the #FaroeIslands. Already on 25th August 2025 some 50 Atlantic white-sided dolphins were cruelly killed in #Skálafjörður bay – the very same place where 1,423 #dolphins lost their lives in 2021 in a single #hunt.

It seems that this community within the #Faroes archipelago has not lost its appetite for dolphin meat.

Here is the full list of hunts that we are aware of in the #FaroeIslands this summer to date (the figures are estimates as official figures are not issued yet), noting that #PilotWhales are also a #dolphin species:

June 12, 2025, #Leynar – over 246 #whales (may be as high as 296)
July 5, 2025 – 49 pilot whales killed in #Bø
July 20, 2025 – 116 pilot whales killed in #Tjørnuvík
Aug. 25, 2025 – 50 Atlantic white-sided dolphins, #Skálafjørður

2/6

Aug. 26, 2025 – 30+ pilot whales killed in #Sandagerði ( #Tórshavn )
Aug. 30, 2025, #Hvalba – 29 pilot whales

I know that these numbers are painful to read, but it is important you hear the truth. Because only together can we hope to stop this ongoing #cruelty.

Why the Killing Continues

It was that infamous, horrible hunt of 1,423 Atlantic white-sided #dolphins that caused outrage across the world,

3/6

with hundreds of thousands of people protesting and numerous governments urging the Kingdom of #Denmark and the #FaroeIsland authorities to halt this practice immediately.

The local Faroese government committed to reviewing the kills of smaller dolphins. Many people living in the Faroe Islands themselves were also concerned about the huge kill and public opinion shows that many people on the Faroe Islands are opposed to the killing of the smaller #dolphin species.

The #Faroese government's report was never made public but, very disappointingly, when it announced the conclusion (some ten months later), it was that an annual 'limit' of 500 white-sided #dolphins would be set.

The opportunity for the local government to stop the #killing had been missed and the 'limit' was far above the usual number of these dolphins taken each year (apart from the appalling take in 2021).

5/6

The government's ruling, if anything, could be seen as encouraging further killing.

Continuing the exposure of the cruelty of these hunts, growing scientific evidence and increasing international protests and local concerns, we are building strong pressure for change in the Faroe Islands. Together, we can amplify the call to finally end these cruel hunts.
