"The Common" 1. Usually a common in England was open space for grazing; this is sloping land apparently used for gravel pits in the past.

Doorway in St Nic's Church. The elaborate stonework was moved here from St Mary's Priory, closed by Henry VIII, for the visit of Queen Elizabeth, 450 years ago this year.

The Pound. This little yard is the site where stray animals used to be impounded in the 16th and 17th centuries, owners having to pay a fine for their release. The shape marked with bricks shows the site of the wartime ARP wardens' hut, also the site where one of the local cricket clubs (The Wardens) was founded!

@trey Nice set! I see the next one in your series shows people walking up the "radical road" under the crags. No-one's been able to do that for several years now, sadly. Apparently tons of rocks fall onto that path every year. They're hoping to stabilise the cliff face and re-open the path... eventually!
