Compare your MC at the beginning and the end of the story. What changed? What’s the same?

Kira is 16. A trainee at the Alliance Academy with some typical and absolutely not so typical problems of a 16 year old, daughter of a Minister in galactic politics.

Kira at the End is probably 40 (currently 35). Captain of a crew and high ranking member of a military half shady special force, permanently linked with the Ships AI and a Veteran of Galactic War and interplanetary Law Enforcement in a relationship with her FC.

Arkham is the youngest Flight Commander (FC) and best pilot the Alliance has produced, not interested in Romance or anything else than piloting.
At the end she is in a relationship with the Captain and best friend with the AI that is linked to the Captain.

A.S.H.L.E.I. ist the Ghoz'Tarc's AI programmed to serve the crew and protect them.
Ash at the end is a sentient person with a female self identificationand more.

Have you made 11th hour additions to your cast? Who was it, and what led to that decision?

Meet Maden Rino, i made them right now for the answer.
She is mother of 12 beautiful children
4 boys 5 girls and 3 non binary ones they are each a year apart and the oldest is 18. She is only biological mother of 3 of them the others are adopted. She runs the the cities best convenience store 25/8.
She lives with her non binary partner in an apartment in Echolon Heights.
In Muldosa on Karentra 5.

I game master RPGs of course I have made up characters on the spot, or on the 11 hour (a phrasing I never heard before) as at quarter to 12, 5 to 12 and even 20 past 12.
Throw me 3 things, I throw you a character.

For Star Ryde I am not even close to twelve maybe 1 am if we talk a 12/12 clock and twelve is PM.

Describe the most unusual/intriguing marketing opportunity you've encountered.

Can't say I have because I haven't released anything but what do you folks think of printing novels or books on toilet paper?
If we can make toilet paper look like money notes it surely should be possible to print text on it.
Hand them over to bars, restaurants of shopping centers. Everyone needs to wipe so possible target market 95% I would guess.
I mean ...
Wait I'm on to something...
Instead of of printing money or stories onto toilet paper let us print politicians and billionaires onto that.
Together with a description what they have done.
But I fear the US can't be properly marketed do to that flimsy stuff they call toilet paper and their inferior pipe size that can't handle European butt and groin wipers (search for story's about horrible European encounters with American Toilets if interested).

What is your MC's earliest memory?

Kira has fond memories of Thunderstorms, as she was born a thunderstorm knocked out the power grid of the colony she was born in. The night was worthy of some horror scenes but Kira after screaming for quite some time seemed to enjoy the rain hitting the windows being carried around by her parents and the birth helper in the light of candles.
The sound of rain and wind relax her to this day even if she doesn't know why she likes Thunderstorms so much same with the light of candles.

Arkham earliest memories are her mother screaming at her father that he is to lazy with her, not challenging her enough and that Arkham would have been way better already if her mother only was allowed to raise her in her own way without his interference.
She still remembers her hands grabbing onto the fabric of his pants as she hid behind him. His hand on her head.

Unlike LLM that aren't real artificial intelligences A.S.H.L.E.I. has a fully fletched Hardware system behind her that was especially designed to run her program.
Her first remembered activation was led by the R&D team, the first Voice she ever heard was the voice of "her Mother" the lead scientist & visionary that was the driving force behind the project. For a biological entity it would have been a horrible moment, since she woke up completely self aware & with all the knowledge programmed into her. The first words that where spoken to her where: "Ashlei are you their?" Ash instantly recognized the gentle voice & "felt" welcomed. To not freak out the researchers she copied the speech pattern of the speaking woman & modified her voice with an digital undertone. I didn't worked that well, she could tell from the raised heart rates in the room.
She tried to correct it but was taken offline.

MC POV: What can't you accept?

Kira: "War and everything around it, people not working together. No matter the species, or variant of your species, we all want to live happily and mostly stress free. For this it's important that we work together and accept each other. Terra almost died do to our species ancestors Idiocracy. I know the Union isn't perfect no democracy ever is because it's flawed by design but it also has to to provide enough freedom for individuals and learning not only from the history but actual development, it's the only form that grants everyone of us at least the most basic equal sentient rights.
Personally I don't know why we deal with an oppression based System like the Betosians but they are our allies after all and core members of the Union. I still hope that we can find a solution for a better treatment of male Betosians, maybe we can rise their birthrate to a sustainable level that would ➡️

About the BIG war ... I still hope that there is a peaceful solution for the Eltaryn situation. It must be some sort of misunderstanding, there must be a reason why they attack all of us.

Arkham: "Don't get me started, I have a peaceful live carrying around stuff I can change like getting the crew from a to b and I don't like talking politics or society... A lot of people today are still emotional, social or empathetic wise trash and I leave it there."

Ashlei: "I am not programmed to have such strong emotions or opinions. But I am programmed with a moral code that aims at preventing damage from biological entities and the opinions of the Captain have influenced me since our merge. For that I am thankful and see it like the Captain. We need to stop suffering favorable by education."

Do you have a favorite among your cast of characters?

This switches from time to time depending on which character I spent the time on most recently.
In case of my SciFi WIP it's the Ice queen for the moment because I spent the weekend developing her motivations etc, now I have at least a spin off short story if not a whole chapter or book in mind..., in DND it's Shera short She a Raven animal companion so far but way more under the surface together with Za'el my recent character.
In Fallout it's Candy who I adore despite being a cannibal and a psycho raider she cares lovely for her adopted daughter and actually helps people by producing medicine.
And than there is Anna who was first only an attempt of RoboCop×Terminator meets Fallout who sort of became my avatar in more than one way.
I miss my older DND characters Ja'zia a drow bard or Tembra my werebear barbarian.
Not to mention all my other characters.😅

If you had to show that a character is a good person within one scene, how would you do it?

Idk in a current setting shooting a corrupt dic(k &)t(r)a(i)tor maybe or
punching an ashhole in the face that makes the world a worse place, than
feed some stray cat before let them sing like in a Disney musical that I would call a "that kney" musical so I don't have trouble with the family entertainment devil in disguise?

In general:
accepting boundaries, protect/support others, share and care. Giving an apple to a hungry child.

If you had to show that a character is a bad person within one scene, how would you do it?

Mustache twirling evil: Eat an apple in an scenes where it looks mostly displaced.

Unredeemable Evil: using a weaker creature as a melee weapon.

Somewhat in between, maybe redeemable: giving a dodgy vibe with weird explanations or not answering at all. Using more iconographic approaches to describe them.

How much does your SC fear death?

~40 crew members only 2 and the AI count as MC plus a whole cast of other SC's or even tertiary characters/background characters...

On average in a healthy way some may stick out above average some are below sofar non of my characters does in my mind or frame notes.

Does any kind of spirituality play a role in your story?

Not at this point in Star Ryde despite having a (at least for me, heartwarming dramatic & romantic) creation myth for the Somwhar which involves their Moon, their Sun, unfulfilled desires, love beyond relationships and the eternal promises to watch over the ones child since the one can't.

My DND characters are often strongly believe in their religions, my current even being an ex nobility and former high priestess. She even goes so far to avoid spiritual encounters with other believe systems, despite being curious about them but it's mostly just for her understanding and to connect it to similar stories/believes in their own religion... And you should always know what to steal (and how long your companions may survive in a bag of holding).

Do any of your characters create any form of art?

Kira is good at cooking with improvised ingredients, has a decent to nice looking hand writing, starts to fold Origami, has a decent way of articulating herself in complicated situations (thanks to the Diplomacy corps lesson for Shades) & is a relatively good dancer but nothing is more than a hobby for her other than the cooking which is useful to keep your crew alive & satisfied.

Arkham likes to dance, to her horror, & tinkers a lot on her pet project which is especially a engineering and research, finding solutions thing.
Only Ash and chief engineer Charleston Trawella know a bit about it and at least the chief is sure that it will revolutionize a lot for the Alliance/Union. Ash does not know if the successful implementation is possible.

Most others of the crew only have space saving hobbies that you can do with a tablet and less space but nothing sticks out so far.

[Redacted] took a look around. Nothing. Only white, as far as the eyes could reach.
[R] stood on a white plain, no real horizon, no landmark, only blending white, well it wasn't really a plane, it was like a room, which walls surrounded your body, the only thing to hear was the pulsing of ones own bloodstream or whatever of an equivalent ran through ones body.

[R] sat down on what maybe was a ground or the wall, the ceiling in ones imagination, hard to say without physical principles.
This wasn't the 1. seizure. On the outside it may only looked like 5 seconds of mindless staring but every new seizure took longer on the inside, the only way to bare it, was to meditate until one was again in control of their body not the imaginary one locked up in endless white & the rushing of its own blood.
[R] hoped that they soon would find a cure for the White Noise.

What is your SC wrong about?

Mondira has a very naive view about being a fan of someone, which is visible in her first interactions with Kira as she comes aboard. Kira has the official alliance rank of leader of the honor guard. This her official job is standing around & looking demotivating to every person, that might be a threat to the council (the Unions active Goverment).
As such she officially runs the schedule & shift plans for the security on known facilities, like the Phoenix, the Unions flagship. This title is handed out to a hand full of people but more than most think it is.
Since Mondira joined the Alliance Rim Initiative, she got obsessed with this Rank & as she learned that one of them will lead the mission, she got obsessed with that person. Almost seeing Kira as a kind of military Rockstar, which is problematic, to say at least.
Kira has made it clear, that she doesn't like "mindless appreciation."

Not knowing what will happen as they wakes up, the fear of not writing enough, or forgetting how to use their memory linking system.
Ariaene knows that they have a very special form of memory loss or more accurate the inability to produce new long term memories & rely on their existing memory.
Ariaene has adopted a 28 hour day schedule, which is also kept on Board of the Netra'Ziar "their" ship,
4 hours are ment for record keeping 2 for reevaluating the past each day. Leaves you with 18 hours almost like a normal day. But the biggest fear to loose theirself in the one memory that is 100% consistent & repeats itself even in their dreams. The moment their wife died on the battlefield, defending the Union against an overwhelming force of 'Rillas & Roaches, only moments before the Eltaryn where beat into retreat, if they remembers.➡️

⬅️ AJ remembers the moment Kiara's helmet didn't hold of the crude, rusty bullet from this freaking, walking trash throwing apes, the sharp ping & swoosh as their armor deflected that bullet... The wet snatch sound as it enters a skull. Seconds later screaming from the top of their lunges, throwing down their weapon, opening their helmet as the Union/Alliance soldiers take their location, as Kiara, fading away, holding her body, crying, whispers her loved one the last words, gently, smiling...
Ariaene remembers that moment in every fine detail, even the smell of their beloved wife, mixed with ballistics, swet & blood. Etched into their memories like in copper, the worst sunset, they would remember, not only in one live time, a lifetime one could forget, this moment they can't.

Ariaene, their intact memories, their dead wife, the live they knows they lost even if they can barely remember.
Sometimes AJ dreams of Kiara in better days not on her last breath.
They remembers a colonie of people, a small neighborhood on a beautiful planet, a restaurant in which they stands in the kitchen cooking while Kiara bakes some fresh bread.
They remembers the shape of their friends, but not really anything else, vague voices of the past, whispered by shadows.
This are the glimpses of humanity Ariaene clings too.
They longs for retribution, to protect others from their fate and they longs for revenge on the creatures that made their life hell.

How does society think about nature & its protection?

Most people want it but big corpo, governments & billionaires are stupid as fork.
Oh you mean in my story?

It's a bit late for that in the 24. Century but people t
do their best to renaturlize & cultivate a better biosphere. The major fork up happened in the 21. century to the 22. As corporates & billionaires made our home almost inhospitable.
The Eltaryn Attack dealt another blow to Terras biosphere.
Basically everything that looks like nature in the 24. is probably thanks to the Talith supported renaturation efforts. Even if half their society thought we should drown in the shi* we created...
But their pragmatic nature won & they tried their best to support Terras rebuilding with genetic & geo engineering & basic Terra forming. If project Ice Caps works out the average temperature of Terra could finally go further down than an average of 36° Celsius.

Would your MC contribute to any discrimination in their world?

She doesn't own a world only a pretty big house on a colony planet & yes Kira would.
Arkham, Ashlei & the rest of the crew also.
Company bosses & pervertly rich people are not well liked in the Union. This has historically roots because not only thanks to them went Terra to shit, humanity fought for survival on their cradle world & Terra was one of the founding members of the galactic spanning Union.
People who go through their three chances before they get exiled from the Union are also pretty much outcasts (literally).
Kira would never judge a book by it's cover without reading it at least a bit. But to get cast out of the Union means, repeatedly working against the system that tries to make sure every single one creature can live without existential dreads imposed by a corrupted society. Company bosses & pervertly rich have often enough done so.

If anyone in your world has imperfect vision what, if anything, can they do to correct it?

Get some glasses, get contact lenses, get surgery, get implants, biological or biomechanical.
It depends where you live and what the solution is you prefer/need.

In the Union it's no problem just go with whatever you prefer. Nanites are reserved for extrem causes, because you can't trust nanites and there are always left overs.

In the Rim it's different, mostly it depends on which level of tech the planet has available, since there are planets that lost their technological advances and resorted to some pseudo medieval lifestyles. If you are on a world like Eodin it's the price tag. Eodin isn't letting you die but it's usual that you only get the cheapest option for free everything else costs a crap load of money.

@AnnaSaultron There is a whole subgenre of "funny animals working in a factory", mainly because in lack of a story this provided enough eye candy when set to music. Fleischer as well as Disney (and all others) used a shot of an assembly line to overwhelm the audience.
