Progressive on trans issues, relatively straightforward path to citizenship, not terrible cost of living, stable financial system / government, and reasonable compatibility with US / Euro time zones
@hacks4pancakes as a white cisgendered straight male I'm theoretically at the least risk from the Trump admin and there is absolutely *no way* I am going near a US border agent for the foreseeable future.
But that's also a relatively easy decision for me to make: I don't have family members trapped there, "only" friends and business associates, no employer pressures, etc
@hacks4pancakes I still can't believe there are people who I had previously considered reasonably well adjusted are seemingly ok with this.
I am trying very hard to focus on literally anything else.
It's just horrific. Just angry, racist, violent retaliation against everyone who didn't vote for him, and the entirety of the Republican party is just totally OK with it.
I've never hoped for more people to just keel over than I do right now.
@hacks4pancakes We have resolved to stay and fight until we can’t anymore. The kids have put down roots, and we believe Chicago to be our best U.S. location for survival. I am hopeful we’ll pull through. I won’t let politicians take my retirement from me yet again.
Unfortunately our exit plan has become moderately hostile by way of the EHRC’s new rules in the UK. The choice between the threat of imminent fascism and the removal of basic human rights is a ludicrous one to make.
