And our new traditional last question:

Q8. Do you have a photo to share from a ride or of something cycle-related from the past week? It doesn't have to be anything special. If you'd like to, share one and tell us about it!

@xtaran @enobacon @ascentale @bikenite there was once the Convercycle. A "normal" bike, which you could fold out into a cargobike.
It created quite a hype, when it was published - but vanished pretty soon afterwards.

@x_tof @enobacon @ascentale @bikenite (last week's) #BikeNite: Ah, right, I remember the #Convercycle. And I even found a few for sale: https://www.fahrrad-xxl.de/marken/convercycle/?searchrequest=Convercycle β€” tempting.

@x_tof: Do you know what happened to the company behind the Convercycle? According to https://web.archive.org/web/*/www.convercycle.com/de/ their website stopped working in June last year. If you try to access it now, you just get a Cloudflare message that the source site their reverse proxy uses, does no more work.

@xtaran no idea. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ
I was sceptical about this concept from the beginning and didn't follow them. There's (at least) one around here in Stuttgart, but it never gets ridden. It's standing there for months already, without being moved.
@x_tof: They seem to have gone bankrupt in September last year: https://pedelec-elektro-fahrrad.de/news/convercycle-bikes-gmbh-insolvenzverfahren-eroeffnet/640349/ (German article)

@xtaran @x_tof so much moving parts, and is an xtracycle #edgeRunner really that long anyway? The zigo is a bit heavier than a purpose-built trike but its main failing is having a weirdly narrow 3sp hub and thus being difficult to convert to electric. It is completely spun-out in gearing by 15mph at like 120rpm, not that you should maybe go any faster than that with the trike mode. Besides sketchy quick-removable (push-button axle) front wheels / drum brakes, it's definitely no nihola.
@xtaran @x_tof I'll probably put the small hilltopper front hub motor on and let the teenager use it in cycletruck mode once she's legal (or at least skilled enough) to e-bike, I keep wanting something like a nihola though, also lacking the garage space to keep such a thing, and the hills around here are not joking, so this only gets assembled into trike mode on special occasions.
