Edit: This was Cory Moll's story. @corymoll. I got the photo from another source.

@paulc hah this is absolutely my doing. I was driving around San Francisco and saw the printer at this corner, and thought it would be a fun little project.

[edit: I sure did toot about the find! https://mastodon.online/@corymoll/110651655424774988]

Attached: 1 image I love finding free useful things on the sidewalk, like this HP LaserJet M209dwe. Yeah it’s an internet connected piece of shit, but it’s free and does print just fine.

@corymoll @paulc I just love the people and communities on the fediverse 😁

@corymoll I had seen it on Mastondon but I then saw it on the MacAdmin's Slack and forgot that I saw it here first.

Glad to have you alert me that this was you. I'll edit my post.

@corymoll You are now credited on my post of your photo. Love to know that it is your story.

It is by far the most retorted and liked of mine by a mile.

@corymoll @paulc
This is such a Fediverse story. 🀣
I love it.
@corymoll @paulc hmmmm... seems odd how they do everything but make printers not bitch about magenta.

@paulc

My toxic trait is scooping curbside inkjets. I've gotten into arguments with my spouse about it.

"Surely", I say to myself, "this fren is just a fresh cartridge away from being a functional printer."

"I can fix him, no really I can."

*Narrator*
"Six inkjets later . . ."

Me: "Hooookay, time to buy a Brother laser printer off eBay"

@paulc
People being nice and our technology being shit.
@paulc It's insane that a new HP printer is cheaper than buying a replacement ink cart
@steeznson @paulc IDK about ink printers (laser FTW!), but a new printer usually has only so much toner to print a few hundred pages. A replacement cartridge is good for a few thousand.
@paulc If a printer needs a remote account to function, I'd throw it back in the trash.
Oh my god that is so precious
@paulc
Fantastic, you didn't just get a printer to work. πŸ‘
@Nowhereman It wasn't me. I added the culpret's name to the post. He is one of us.
@paulc #alttext A printed page displayed on the base of a street sign, the content is in the OP.
@paulc @corymoll love that, human beings still exist
@paulc @corymoll Hurrah! let’s work together to prevent enshittification of the real world.🍲
@paulc @corymoll Annoying that there's this "step" or whatever. I guess it is just the way of things. That said, I think that it being on the HP account, it would be preferable for them that you not be printing things like this and then have your prints tracked to them.
@paulc @corymoll this reminds me i need to do this for a Focusrite audio interface i sold somebody lol whoops

@paulc @corymoll, first thought on seeing the text scrawled at the bottom:

Is time travel involved here? (7 June vs. 3 July)

On reading a bit more: oh, right. Americans. πŸ™„
