give a man a linux and he will computer for a day, teach a man to linux and he will not shut the fuck up about it for the rest of his life
@mike our lord and saviour ubuntu gems
@mike *THIS* year will be the year of the Linux desktop
@davidbcohen @mike And if it requires a lot of talking and people complaining about that, so be it.

@mike Give windows to a man and they will complain how bad it is, but keep using it and saying how every other alternative is somehow worse.
Sell windows to a man and they will complain how bad it is, but keep buying it and saying how every other alternative is somehow worse.
Force man to use windows and he will complain how bad it is, but keep using it and saying how every other alternative is somehow worse.

Windows users thinking is beyond me

@alihan_banan @mike I "bought" a windows 10 a while ago. I was gaming on it (and dual-booting gnu/linux for dev).

My two favourite parts are when windows 10 said my CPU wasn't good enough to upgrade to 11. A threadripper 1950x, mind you.

Anyway all CPUs age out, so I eventually upgraded to a newer i5. Now the windows 10 copy I "bought" tells me I don't actually own it in a nice little watermark on the bottom right.

Windows!

@mike sudo apt update && sudo apt install happiness
@mike
This has the ring of truth, Mike!
@mike So many sound like the Jehovah’s witnesses or Mormon’s who I chase off my porch. “Let me tell you about my Lord and Savior…”. It’s a feckin’ piece of software, get a grip on yourself! 🤓
@moelassus @mike I'm afraid to ask how you treat Arch users...
@d1 @mike 🤣 I’m very kind to them as they terrify me.
@mike
Mea culpa
Mea culpa
Mea maxima culpa
@mike Do Linux fanbois spraypaint "Torvalds is God" the way their grandparents did that for Clapton?
@StumpyTheMutt @mike Please respect our Lord and Saviour and King of the Penguis.
@mike Who teaches linux? I had to figure that stuff out one mind numbing critical error at a time. The first time I installed linux years ago, I needed a crash course in GRUB just to format the harddisk properly so it could be installed in the first place. Trying to figure out what the cryptic motherboard beeps meant so I could get the proprietary video drivers working. But nowadays ordinary day to day windows errors don't even perturb me.
@mike I for one, welcome our Red Hat, Mint, Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, CentOS, Arch SUSE, Monjaro overlords
@mike that's how we get you 😄
@mike Do you have a moment to discuss our lord and savior Tux?
@Lightfighter @mike I love watching history YouTubes about the Unix/BSD split. It started when a puffer fish nailed a list of questions to the door of Bell Labs ...
@mike Better teach a woman then ;-)
@mike been using linux for forever and stubbornly refusing to learn anything about it.
@mike Really, though, you only notice the Linux users that won't shut up about it, most of us don't do that. (I'll grant you that I'm kinda doing it right now, but you brought it up)

@mike i _may_ have been like that for the first five to ten years of being a linux user...

but 25 years later, even my boomer parents are occasionally telling me "i just read about OpenABC/LibreXYZ in the newspaper, you were right about free software all along!"

so i guess i was right not to shut up about it!

@mike

truest words on the internet since xmodem was the tits.
@mike lol! Yeah, I have a friend just like that. His prolytizig really get to me sometimes.
@mike not all linux-using men
@mike
Correction: give a man a linux and he will computer for a day, teach a "man" to linux and she will not shut the fuck up about it for the rest of her life.

@mike i went to a bar and heard some guy talking about Linux gaming to someone who played, exclusively, Stardew Valley and JRPGs

she did not mention her operating system before this conversation started

then he told her and their two other friends to buy steam decks

we were all at the bar for their Cheap Hamburger Day

I will let you assume how that went over

@mistercharlie I’m going to reply with this video every time you repost something about Linux
