@Hex @tessarakt @georgetakei
The Defense Logistics Agency has the mission of disposing of obsolete/unneeded excess property turned in by U.S. military units around the world
Congress authorized the transfer of excess DOD property to federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.

So local law enforcement ends up with leftover armored cars to mount raids on people’s homes
Rather than, you know reducing crimes

@tessarakt @AccordionBruce @Hex @georgetakei The cops are not enforcers like people, especially them, actually think. That's the courts and prisons. Police actual duties are investigation, apprehension, and prevention (well...not according to scotus I guess).
But in practice they fully believe they are the enforcers and do so with impunity, whether they know the law or not (in fact they can use their ignorance to get away with shit).
America wasn't far from a fascist state to begin with.
@crazyeddie @tessarakt @AccordionBruce @Hex @georgetakei
In Australia we used to call them (police, cops) “wallopers” - for obvious reasons (to wallop = to hit, often with a stick ie a cudgel). You can still hear the term used out in the boon docks, sticks, or remoter areas.
We might have to gift it to you in the US…
😐
@tessarakt @AccordionBruce @Hex @georgetakei By connotation law enforcement is suppose to be broader than policing. Policing brings up the idea of cops on a beat or on patrol. While Law Enforcement includes ideas like regulation, financial crimes etc... But on paper they're essentially synonyms.
BLM "tarnished" the brand of policing/police so it's really more of a PR move than a real technical differentiation.
@mwguy @tessarakt @AccordionBruce @Hex @georgetakei
Cops did the "tarnishing" all by themselves. BLM just shone a light on just how bad the rot was.
@tessarakt @AccordionBruce @Hex @georgetakei
I reckon we went to hell in a handcart when we got to have a police force instead of a police service.
@DziadekMick @tessarakt @AccordionBruce @georgetakei if you read "The Lucifer Effect" it becomes obvious that there can be no institution that looks and acts like the police which will not devolve into an army that carries out a war on the population. When you learn about the history of police, it becomes clear that that was the point all along.
They started in the south as slave patrols and in the north as a private military for the capitalist class funded by the society, because they were tired of funding their own Pinkertons.
I expected to see American tank man...
....just not so soon.
Let's hope he doesn't disappear like the Chinese tank man.

picture 1: a screenshot of a newsreport titled immigration operation at Camarillo farm - Federal Agents clash with protesters. We see a single person standing in front of what looks like a militarized vehicle, thereby blocking its way.
picture 2: the iconic photograph of the lone man standing in front of a line of tanks in Tiananmen Square.

English version of the Borg transmission from the movie Star Trek VIII First Contact
1: Still frame from ABC local channel 7, showing a man in a white t-shirt standing inches away from the front of a military Humvee, on the highway.
2: The famous still from Tianenmen Sq, of "Tank Man" (also in a white shirt) standing before a line of four tanks decorated with the red star of the People's Republic of China.
Noem, the KILLER of innocent puppy dogs, is nothing more than a SLAUGHTER HOUSE SEWER RAT BARBIE!!!
💩Oops - I just insulted rats ... so sorry! 😐
... And Barbie, TBH.
And sewers are a collective (socialized!) effort to improve public health, I'm sure she has nothing to do with them
Not a fan of the Borg then I take it, noted.

George doesn't like Borg, cancel the Picard Borg eye-set gift.
The humor is how to deal with crappy circumstances.
@georgetakei I've just got to wonder what will happen if some of ICE's heavy vehicles meet a Florida sinkhole:
@georgetakei hey seconds later that dude nearly gets ran over and has to choose between stepping away or dying
he stepped away and threw a bottle at the car
because peaceful protest will end up with you dead, as ice is showing day after day. the only answer is armed resistance
Resistance is never safe though. It takes courage, determination, preparation and support. If you want it to be more than one dude in front of a tank, or if you want it to win. We have to win more than history.
