Today I learned there are rules for Road Runner ... BEEP-BEEP!

(creator Chuck Jones’s rules for the Road Runner)

@Natasha_Jay great example of setting constraints

@Natasha_Jay These rules were added later. In the earliest cartoons, RR was more than willing to use the devices against the coyote.

@Natasha_Jay I remember one episode where the coyote speaks: “Wile E. Coyote. Sooper Genius“

@Natasha_Jay Oh! It was Coyote vs. Bugs!

@Natasha_Jay the ones where the coyote was able to talk just didn't work as well, yeah.

@Natasha_Jay There is a real company called Acme. Know what they make? Animation supplies.

@Natasha_Jay If only Wile E. had known about Acme's Food Prep subscription service...
@Natasha_Jay this is what physics looks like to nerds who know what physics is.
@Natasha_Jay i think there was one episode where the coyote had dialogue, but just reads out a business card describing himself as a genius

@TinaStormcaller @Natasha_Jay "Wile e. Coyote. Genius". he has dialogue for the whole cartoon — but it's versus bugs, not road runner.

@Natasha_Jay

i am now picturing this rule set done as RFC 2119 SHOULD/MUST conformant language. and giggling, i'll admit.

meep meep!

@Natasha_Jay
In my opinion, rule 2 and 8 are conflicting. Gravity is a pretty strong outside force.
@leeloo @Natasha_Jay It's a mutual attraction between coyotes and the planet they briefly hover above, no?
@Natasha_Jay they did break 4 for the bugs bunny crossovers — and wile e's voice is. just. perfect.
@Natasha_Jay Love the "definition of a fanatic" in there!
@Natasha_Jay I appreciate that he refrained from making it a 10 rules list. Not necessary
@Natasha_Jay Weird to hear from the creator that it was always "beep beep" instead of "meep meep" which is what I heard.
@briankrebs @Natasha_Jay You are not alone. I always thought it was meep meep when it was airing when I was a kid too. The show comes on one of my local stations and when I watch it trying to hear "beep beep" I still hear "meep meep."

@nazokiyoubinbou @briankrebs @Natasha_Jay

In French, he's literally called "Bip-Bip", so I guess thee could be no confusion on this suject ? :)

@Natasha_Jay and I believe Coyote Vs Acme film is actually going to be released, from something I read recently (sorry for the link location)

@Nikkileah it's coming out the same weekend as HL3. Tough competition.

@Natasha_Jay @fuzzface

My all time favorite invention was the Coyote ordering a pair of skis, a fridge, and a meat grinder from Acme.

He
1) Attached the meat grinder to the ice maker in the freezer
2) Cranked up the ice maker causing an endless stream of cubes that flowed into the grinder
3) the grounded cubes formed a stream of snow that fell in front of him from the grinder
4)He skied on *that* path

He wore the entire thing on his back.

Out. Standing.

@Natasha_Jay

The coyote should just buy a ton of beef jerky and an Acme™ Atomic-Powered Rehydrator.

@Natasha_Jay Fun fact, Coyote is an immortal fool / trickster deity.

@Natasha_Jay

It sounds like there is a valuable life lesson to keep in mind behind Rule 9.

@Natasha_Jay A coyote cannot harm a road runner or through inaction allow a roadrunner to come to harm

@Natasha_Jay I'm 57, and until right now I always thought the roadrunner said "Meep meep!"

I'm off for a lie down to get over the shock.

@Natasha_Jay Fun factoid: coyotes can run faster than road runners.

I guess it's a reminder never to overengineer your solutions, lol.

@Natasha_Jay That doesn't seem authentic. I'm pretty sure the original spelt it "Meep-Meep!".

@Natasha_Jay

The traps always backfire.

@Natasha_Jay didn't they violate Rule 5 at least quite a lot?
@agowa338 @Natasha_Jay That was my very first thought. I remember one episode where the coyote is waiting to drop something on an edge of the cliff, the roadrunner creeps behind him and goes beep beep, scaring him and making him step off the cliff. I'm pretty sure there was no road up there.
