Hey all, I'm afraid that if you're on mastodon.social server and were following me, you've been accidently deleted from my list.
If you want to follow me, you'll have to refollow. Thanks. 🚨

@petergleick

if you hadn't told us you could've gotten rid of us!

@petergleick I accidentally did this with mastodon.social a while ago too. The client I was using had 'block user' and 'block domain' right next to each other. One accidental tap and I lost half my followers. Whoops.
@petergleick Just followed you back again ThX

@petergleick

Thanks for the heads up !

@petergleick I've been on the verge of blocking that entire instance a number of times, but keep not doing so because there *are* a lot of great people on the flagship server, and I want to see what they're posting.

I'm teetering. One fine day - probably sooner rather later! - I'll press the button. But I'm not quite there yet.

@ApostateEnglishman Forgive me if this is common knowledge (I’m fairly new to mastodon) but why is there hate towards the flagship server? Bots? Should I consider switching?
@jckmnhn @ApostateEnglishman Yes, regular floods of bots is one reason.

@jckmnhn Eugen Rochko made .social the flagship server for on-boarding newcomers, so most start their Masto journey there. But he also refuses to implement the ability to import content logs in ActivityPub, so people end up stuck at .social, unable to move their content (only followings). As a result, the server has slowly become too big to effectively moderate, undermining decentralization and making it a haven for spam bots and malicious actors.

So folks are blocking it.

@melgu @petergleick

@ApostateEnglishman @jckmnhn @melgu @petergleick The instance I'm on hides .social by default

@petergleick

LOL. They will never know what happened.

@petergleick I followed you again. Follow back?

@petergleick Done.

I would probably see your posts anyway, in boosts.

@petergleick I’m still following.
@petergleick it seems that I am still following even though I’m on that server. It says I am following.
