@_elena What a fantastic video! Loved it. I would also really welcome similar revolution on hardware/software platforms. Apple and Google are both in the business of making money (which is understood and mostly accepted) but what options do we have if we want to ‘de-centralise’ our gear?

Google are harvesting data and content for their Ai, and Apple have connections with mining in the DRC, and labour practices that would certainly not be acceptable in the western markets they thrive in. Ideas?

Great work @_elena! A couple of notes.

There's significant work to done to enable the full account portability implied by "you own your own data". That's certainly the future we aspiring to here. But unless you are the admin of your own server, for now it's more accurate to say 'your server admins owns your data'.

Also, there isn't really a full replacement for FarceBook yet. Comparing Friendica to FB sets expectations that often don't match the reality. Which isn't really fair to Friendica.

@_elena this is so cool! What did you use for the VFX/animations? I think the visuals go a long way in holding attention to spread the message 😁

One small suggestion: maybe show a few screenshots earlier on, rather than just the icons, so people can see the variety of what's there? Perhaps you could parade half a dozen of the different platforms on phone screens as part of the animation (no need to talk directly about it; what you did at the end was good enough for that) 📱📱📱
