ICE shot a journalist in the leg. A journalist.

They’re shooting people who are there to cover the protests as an essential part of the freedom of the press and the right to free speech.

It was apparently a “less lethal” round (ie rubber bullets) yet emergency surgery is required.

This regime has already silenced so many journalists.

Kicked them out of the Oval Office and filled it with “friendlies” (ie propagandists).

These are dark times:

@broadwaybabyto keep in mind, they're "less than lethal" and that distinction matters.

@draNgNon @broadwaybabyto Uhhh, calling it "non-lethal" when it is indeed 100%, factually, documented as potentially lethal is exactly the distinction that matters.

I mean, but do go off...

EDIT: I WAS MISTAKEN AND THEY DID NOT MEAN WHAT I THOUGHT THEY MEANT

@NosirrahSec thank you! I’ve edited the post to reflect that because as you said it’s an important point.

@NosirrahSec @broadwaybabyto
The term is 'less lethal' for bean bag rounds or tasers. It means they will kill people hit by them less often than bullets.

And that's only if they are used per manufacturer instructions. Police often aim 'less lethal' munitions at protesters heads, in an attempt to kill or maim them in a deniable way.

And 'non lethal' munitions can be used to murder protesters. A tear gas canister can be fired into the ground at close range to bounce up at head height.

@broadwaybabyto This round did more damage than a pistol bullet is seems, acting rather like a shotgun slug. Must have been very close range. Most rounds of this type specify a minimum range within which they are not to be used due to excessive energy and exactly this behavior.

If this round was intentionally fired from too close, this is awful close to crossing the live fire threshold, a red line if their ever was one,

@LukefromDC @broadwaybabyto I just found out that the amount of grains (gun powder) in those "non-lethal" rubber bullets can be increased to give them more velocity and thus greater distance to shoot from and cause physical injury and/or death.

I'm just totally disgusted by this admin and law enforcement in general.

@broadwaybabyto @msbellows I only hope there's a "good guy with a gun" there.

@broadwaybabyto And this is why people are going incognito to cover the protests.

And why the networks aren't exactly sending reporters to TALK to residents.

1965 all over again. When the media had to send in Black reporters from NYC to cover the first LA rebellion,or use backroom people as reporters for fear of being attacked.

@broadwaybabyto it was non lethal rounds that caused those 4(?) people to lose one of their eyes during the George Floyd protests

@Procrvstinvtion @broadwaybabyto

One was the journalist Linda Tirado, I remember.

She said even with "non-lethal" rounds, the police are SUPPOSED to fire at the ground in front of someone, and let the bullet bounce up into them. Because a direct hit still carries too much force.
In those protests, the police were violating policy by shooting directly at people. Sounds like ICE is doing that again now.

@Kathmandu @Procrvstinvtion @broadwaybabyto I’ve been pleased to hear some TV reporters adopting the framing of “less-lethal” rounds (many years late to their literal job, but hey!), as nonlethal is a bit optimistic and there’s suggestion that framing makes both LEOs and the public more cavalier about their use.
@broadwaybabyto You mean "a sometimes less than lethal round". They are not 100 percent non-lethal which makes it incorrect to call them that.
@broadwaybabyto from afar the firing on non violent protesters and targeting / suppression of journalists whilst ceasing people on the street and deporting without due process would appear the rule of law has fallen.
Is it not the point of congress to safeguard this eventuality and step in?
Respect to those resisting
@curiously @broadwaybabyto We cannot count on those in power to defend their constituents. They have abandoned us

@curiously @broadwaybabyto

When genocides and ecocide are running wildly unchecked as a bunch of oligarchs smash the whole world like spoiled children who don't know how to not break their toys, yeah it's pretty safe to conclude that rule of law, rules-based international order and so on is all a really terrible joke.

@broadwaybabyto I expect to see articles of impeachment filed tomorrow against the Secretary of Homeland Security.

@broadwaybabyto ""Non-lethal rounds" still have enough momentum to cause serious injury. All "crowd control" tactics are dangerous, and deployment of them against peaceful protestors and journalists is a crime.

I expect to see articles of impeachment filed tomorrow against the Secretary of Homeland Security.

@broadwaybabyto

I want to know --- Are great again?

Was King James Rule, what you all were aiming for?
@Linux @broadwaybabyto Define "you all". Because if I'm included, the answer is hell no, eff this.
@hosford42 @broadwaybabyto

Sorry, perhaps it was poorly worded -- The question was aimed at anyone who could read the post (in the thread), who may or could have voted for Donald Trump. But not for anyone individual specific, in general.

@broadwaybabyto during the BLM protests police shot a journalist I used to follow. It too was a "less-lethal" round; sandbag, I think. They shot her in the eye and blinded her.

They aimed at her face. She was clearly press.

@GreatBigTable @broadwaybabyto Linda Torado. She also has a traumatic brain injury which has apparently led to early dementia. She was reported to be placed in hospice last year.

Journalist shot by Minneapolis police during 2020 protests dying from injuries

Linda Tirado was in Minneapolis from out of state covering the protests and rioting when police shot her in the face with a rubber bullet, also known as a "less-lethal" round.

@jzb @broadwaybabyto Thanks for the pull. I lost track of her when I left Twitter. It is so infuriating that this happened to her.

@GreatBigTable @broadwaybabyto It is. I exchanged tweets with her a few times on Twitter long ago - she struck me as an independent-minded, fair, and unique voice. I really valued her perspective.

No one should be blinded, or worse, simply for turning up at a protest. It's made all the worse by the fact that nothing has changed as a result. No accountability, and little more than a few cursory mentions by the press--and but for the grace of God, it could be any mainstream reporter.

@jzb @GreatBigTable @broadwaybabyto that's serious. I hope perpetrators are being held accountable
@GreatBigTable this is all so awful. I’ve edited the post to say “less lethal” since non lethal is clearly minimizing garbage.
@broadwaybabyto So this is what it feels like to watch your country slide--well, these days more careen -- into autocracy.

@broadwaybabyto Did you see the Australian journalist that was shot?

@broadwaybabyto And not just any journalist. An AUSTRALIAN journalist. Elbows up, Australia!

#Australia

@anne_twain I think they’ve actually shot two then! Because this article was about a British male journalist, but I’ve also seen the video of the Australian woman!

@broadwaybabyto I guess that makes two journalists shot with “less lethal” “rubber” bullets. I hope the Australian’s injuries are less severe

Cops nailed an Australian reporter live on camera with a rubber bullet, in case you're wondering if Australians are going to want to visit the US anytime soon. (probably deliberately, they are not supposed to randomly fire into the crowd but pick a target who they deem a threat) (Update: video plainly shows the nearest cop deciding to nail the reporter in the leg with "nonlethal" (less lethal) ammo, on camera) https://www.9news.com.au/world/los-angeles-protests-national-guard-troops-arrive-in-la-on-donald-trumps-orders-to-quell-immigration-protests/0e451581-493c-46fc-b426-ee220f6a29fc #tourism #LosAngeles #civilunrest

Same shit Israel does. The reporters of their corruption will be the first to go.
@broadwaybabyto We need to be talking a lot more about Linda Tirado.
