ICE shot a journalist in the leg. A journalist.

They’re shooting people who are there to cover the protests as an essential part of the freedom of the press and the right to free speech.

It was apparently a “less lethal” round (ie rubber bullets) yet emergency surgery is required.

This regime has already silenced so many journalists.

Kicked them out of the Oval Office and filled it with “friendlies” (ie propagandists).

These are dark times:

The Guardian

@broadwaybabyto during the BLM protests police shot a journalist I used to follow. It too was a "less-lethal" round; sandbag, I think. They shot her in the eye and blinded her.

They aimed at her face. She was clearly press.

@GreatBigTable @broadwaybabyto Linda Torado. She also has a traumatic brain injury which has apparently led to early dementia. She was reported to be placed in hospice last year.

Journalist shot by Minneapolis police during 2020 protests dying from injuries

Linda Tirado was in Minneapolis from out of state covering the protests and rioting when police shot her in the face with a rubber bullet, also known as a "less-lethal" round.

@jzb @broadwaybabyto Thanks for the pull. I lost track of her when I left Twitter. It is so infuriating that this happened to her.

@GreatBigTable @broadwaybabyto It is. I exchanged tweets with her a few times on Twitter long ago - she struck me as an independent-minded, fair, and unique voice. I really valued her perspective.

No one should be blinded, or worse, simply for turning up at a protest. It's made all the worse by the fact that nothing has changed as a result. No accountability, and little more than a few cursory mentions by the press--and but for the grace of God, it could be any mainstream reporter.
