I love running around Glasgow as you see many different sights. Today's run included red sandstone tenements looking amazing in the sunshine, tar or bitumen melting in the heat, a roe deer swimming across the Forth and Clyde Canal, bridges over the Clyde, some beautifully painted murals and right at the end the P/S Waverley heading doon the watter.

Given all the sights to see across the city, I really don't unserstand why Glasgow doesn't have a full marathon any more (the last one was run in 1988) as many smaller towns and cities manage to have one. Maybe next year's Commonwealth Games could provide the perfect platform to re-launch the Glasgow Marathon.

@thisismyglasgow Begs the question, do you really want one? These events have a flip side /unforeseen consequences. Small towns 'keep it local'. Glasgow is an international city you'd have no end of 'unnecessary' bollox to contend with and the costs would come back on you. #justsaying 😎
@Palky55 Personally, yes I do, but purely for selfish reasons. I'd love to be able to do at least one marathon on Glasgow rather than having to go through to Edinburgh! πŸ‘πŸ˜€
@thisismyglasgow With you on that! Old reekie, full o Yankees & fake tartan as I recall & that fecking hill, they'd make you go up and round more than once!

@thisismyglasgow Just watched a Channel 5 program on the Scilly Isles, turns out even they have an ultra marathon, with a twist: if you can't keep a pace of 7.5 km per hour (IIRC) the boat to the next island leaves without you!

However, the disruption of a marathon is significant. Edinburgh mostly gets round it by sending them straight out to Portobello and on past Musselburgh. Keeping it within city boundaries like London would be horrendous!

@carusb There is a half marathon each year in Glasgow already, so I'm not too sure a full marathom would be that much more disruptive. There may also be routes you can take which keep you away from major roads to minimise disruption (e.g. along the water front, along the canal and through some of the larger parks (Pollol Park, Bellahouston etc).
@thisismyglasgow I remember the coal man calling out from the street
