Sean Thompson's Weird Ears: Head in the Sand
Sounding a bit like Garcia and Weir dosed the entire honky tonk and then proceeded to commandeer the house band, Weird Ears is psychedelic country at its finest. Zement: Passagen
After the first 15 seconds of this one, you think you have kind of an idea of what this German duo got, an updated motorik sound. Sure, there's that, but there's so much more. Each zig is countered by an equally compelling zag, afrobeat turns to krautrock, jazz freakout to psychedelic electrofunk. It's brilliantly constructed and easy to love. Enjoy!

Wrong Way Up: Totally Right
The opening track is called "Hang On to Your Kool" and whatever "kool" is, this release is positively oozing with it. This synth duo is from Australia, but the sound is purely African, and it's funky as all heck. It's impossible not to enjoy this. Amir Bresler: Tide and Time
This is like the piano jazz version of magical realism. Lovely progressive piano/bass/drum subtly becomes something more, grander, more... magical. The Israeli drummer working with pianist Nitai Hershkovits & producer Rejoicer create coherent compositions out of spontaneous studio experimenting. This is exactly what I want all my jazz to sound like. Dreamy. Enjoy!

There's so much talent in Nashville that occasionally (often!) you get some magic like this one, just by the sheer statistical mechanics of the community there. BASIC: Dream City
Chris Forsyth is maybe best known for his ability to, for lack of a better term, *shred*. So it's noteworthy that his latest project is more Eno than Crazy Horse. The band has already evolved in its short life and the latest guitar-bass-percussion trio is 90% rhythm: komische grooves, almost tribal. If anything, this EP is too short, but it works plenty well on repeat. Enjoy!

Steve Gunn has as many facets as he has frets on his guitar. While I dig all of em, from song-y Gunn to jazzfreakout Gunn, it's his quiet/pensive/gorgeous stuff that's my favorite. Man, I have no idea where I discovered this one and there is scant information about it anywhere, but man, what a delight of indiefolk (I guess). Katy Pinke: Strange Behavior

I first heard these guys at Woodsist fest last year, which was a perfect fit for this Philly rock band. The album is perfectly twang-heavy, a laid-back country rock for the age of legalized weed. Ouzo Bazooka: Kapaim
More worldly sounds from overseas, this bazooka is a doozy. Hailing from Israel, this project from Uri Brauner Kinrot mixes Middle Eastern and Turkish funk in with psychedelic rock to create something that feels truly universal and culture-bridging. It's groovy as hell, but it's much more than that. His output has been generally impressive, but this is the best yet. Enjoy!

Golden Brown: Whisker Fatigue
Most one-man guitars-and-effects albums out there lean into quiet ambient beauty, sonic balm to the loudness of the modern world. While there's some lovely guitar on his latest, Stefan Beck sandwiches it in layers of murky digitalia, leaning into the darkness rather than ignoring it. It's a welcome dimensionality for the listener. Pretty, sure, but also not. Enjoy!

@Neddyo Went to look this up on Tidal, excited to listen. While there, I saw that one of their recent singles had a cover image from a #DJKicks release I hadn't seen before, one from Quantic.
Turns out that was released this past Friday.
