I know soooooo many computer scientists, myself included, who got into it for the TNG computer! Sadly, the stuff farting out Trump Pope pictures breaks our hearts, but we're still hopeful. I'd like to think most people want a Star Trek future.

Paul@ilust606 @georgetakei That episode said something of the Nazis that was a common thought among historians at the time: That evil as it undoubtedly was, the Nazis ran the most efficient country the world had known. That was why the guy in the episode decided to do Space Nazism.
Modern historians have a technical term to describe that school of thought: it's bollocks. It was a chaotic mess of infighting and mutually exclusive attempts to curry favour with the leader.
Much like a certain current country either is or is rapidly becoming. I'm not sure we could update the episode to the Maga Planet because nobody would ever think for a moment it's super efficient and reliable.

He will work together with Ex-Nazis and does his best to protect them from prosecution. He and his government are hunting queers and women are declared second class citizens. He also is very interested in new technologies and wants to use them for his propaganda.

Koochulainn@georgetakei I think it's informative to remember that, by today's standards, the Enterprise is fairly trad conservative. Woke in its time, of course, but that shows the arrow of social progress (and the longer-term movement of the real-world Overton Window) very clearly.
