Finally had time to watch Pewdiepie's "I installed Linux" video.

Don't know what I was expecting... but *wasn't* expecting a great list of reasons why, in 2025, you should stop using Windows and install Linux—he even mentions how to use systemd-analyze!

I installed Linux (so should you)

YouTube
@geerlingguy I love how he went so deep into it, with ricing, scripting and all. He definiyely seems to be enoying it, which is good!
@geerlingguy yeah it's an unexpectedly pretty good video.
@geerlingguy He went far deeper than I ever imagined.

@tripplehelix @geerlingguy He's more familiar with some commands than I am and I've been using Linux as my sole OS for well over 20 years.

He's got a lot of Linux people just itching to help him through stuff though. I had to RTFM.

Gaming still has some issues. If the game has certain anti-cheat features for example, it probably won't work on Linux even with Proton. Even if the anti-cheat product can, the developers rarely enable that. Most games though work fine, especially the indi stuff

@geerlingguy And he’s bringing his fashy following to Linux! Yaaaaaaaaaay……. /s
@j_s_j @geerlingguy I continue to never understand this
@j_s_j @geerlingguy I was going to say the same thing, I feel for the mods and this new endless September
@geerlingguy
He went full xkcd 456 on us. It’s actually wild
@Linux_in_a_Bit @geerlingguy It was only a matter of time. His gaming Youtuber ADHD could not possibly resist the rice.
@Linux_in_a_Bit @geerlingguy Haha, yeah. Here is the link for anybody wondering https://xkcd.com/456
Cautionary

xkcd
@geerlingguy watching him use a tiling window manager, the CLI, going all in like a maniac, I couldn't believe my eyes. He got it right and was passionate about it, sure made me smile!
@geerlingguy Making his main setup Mint-based is actually super smart, I wonder if it was LMDE or the Ubuntu-based one. Also Pewds coming across OBS after all this time of using Bandicam is funny, didn't even know Bandicam was still around.
@geerlingguy inb4 he discovers homelabbing and makes a peertube/lemmy/matrix instance (I don't think he'd make a mastodon one, he hates anything that even vaguely looks like Twitter which I get)
@geerlingguy I'm toooooo old for Mr Beast.
But..... fair comments and fair conclusion.
@geerlingguy I have no idea how you managed to watch the video in it's entirety.
When I opened it up in Tubular (which includes the SponsorBlock add-on) the entire timeline lit up like a Christmas tree. I skipped through the video and I couldn't suffer him "doing a voice" for more than three seconds. 😬
@geerlingguy This surprised me too. And i really didnt expect that he installed Arch linux on his spare laptop, complete with a custom desktop enviroment.
@geerlingguy Wow, this is honestly surprisingly good.
@geerlingguy Who knew that in the past decade and a half I would go from absolutely despising and mocking him and his content to cheering him on as a champion of open software.
@geerlingguy great. Let’s welcome the fascists
@geerlingguy from the thumbnail i expected more references to scifi, it was nice balancing it wasn’t — i don’t understand his acting references but they are funny mannerisms sometimes — i watched him before — i will watch prime reacting now
