In my ongoing efforts to #degoogle, I've been testing #organicMaps for the last two weeks. Because the only #google app that we are still using frequently is #googlemaps

And I have to say that I am impressed by how well it works. It sent me on a few "unexpected" routes for some that I drive frequently and for which I thought I found the optimal ones already...

Otherwise, a very nice experience and I can wholeheartedly say: No excuses any more - time to switch!

@abulling
I totally agree. Organicmaps is what I recommended to typical use cases. It is a great app. In particular, finding places is easy.

#osmand is what I use when satellite images, weather (real-time) and traffic information is needed on the map. In comparison to organicmaps is has way more functionality. However, it is not easy to use.

@devSJR Thanks for the hint - #osmand looks great. How can I activate satellite and traffic (weather I found)?

And, if downloaded from #fdroid or #aurora - does #androidauto still work?

@abulling @devSJR Traffic information (e.g. from Google) can be added as overlay, but it will not be used for routing. Google Auto only allows apps installed by Google Play. The F-Droid variant of OsmAnd the Aurora Store app can be tweaked to look as if installed by Play (if root available). But I don't know if this works then, our car only has Google Auto as very expensive extra purchase.
@abulling @devSJR For routing with traffic information I use Nunav Navigation or Here We Go. Both are not good featured apps though.
