I put together a thread with (hopefully) helpful information about this weekend’s National Day of Action on #April19.

Feel free to add any additional information, events, suggestions, and resources you’d like to share with others.

(Note: I am not a lawyer, organizer, or expert in any of these topics. Just a concerned pineapple trying to help.)

Having trouble finding #protest events on #April19? That’s b/c they’re not all under one group, org, or individual…LOTS of voices are standing up!

Try searching these sites for events (leave out specific filters/labels, like 50501, #Indivisible, or #HandsOff for broader results):

Most of those websites allow you to search by date and location. Be sure to adjust the location range to find more events near you (some default to only within 10 miles).

🤔 Still can’t find anything? A lot of events are organized locally and informally, and don’t make it into a map or list, but they exist and you can still participate!

👉 Protests are encouraged in every single state capital. Grab a sign and head to your state’s capitol building. You won’t be alone!

4/
👉 Can’t get to your state capital? No problem, there are lots of protests planned outside of capital cities. Head to your local city hall, courthouse, Tesla dealership, or local rep’s office!

👉 Don’t have a city hall, courthouse, or dealership near you? Grab a sign, find any safe public location, and wave to cars and passersby! 👋

5/
👉 Unable to attend or don’t feel safe participating in person? We need you too!

📞Spread event info to others, call/email your reps, urge your local news media to cover the protests.

💰Make a donation to a worthy or under-threat organization (ACLU, Trevor Project, Planned Parenthood, Human Rights Campaign, etc.)

☕️Deliver snacks/water/coffee/ponchos to hungry, cold, or rain-soaked protesters.

✊Walk, bike, or drive by a protest and give encouraging waves, honks, thumbs ups, and fist pumps!

6/
And as always, no matter how you choose to participate, stay safe.

👉 If you feel uncomfortable or something seems off, it’s okay to leave.

👉 Know your rights ahead of time. Make sure someone (not at the protest) knows where you will be and when to expect you back.

👉 Wear a mask to protect yourself from transmissible diseases, like COVID, flu, bird flu, and measles (yes, they’re still circulating).

👉 Stay peaceful, follow law enforcement directives, don’t engage with counter protesters.

Know Your Risks (KYRs) - National Lawyers Guild

NLG staff, chapters, projects, committees, and members regularly create and update guides and trainings to help people face law enforcement and the legal system. Commonly referred to as "Know Your Rights" or "KYRs," the NLG Mass Defense Program recognizes that these "rights" do not truly protect us in the streets and are often knowingly violated
