CALL NOW: Tell Your Senator to Vote NO on Legislation Silencing Americans

Indivisible
@indivisibleteam that's good. If you can't identify yourself, then you shouldn't be able to vote.

@sinuspl @indivisibleteam

There are a lot of ways to identify yourself. They're trying to restrict it to the most expensive and least accessible forms of ID.

@indivisibleteam it’s not just married women.

How many students go off to college with their birth certificate?

How about homeless people?

How about victims of natural disasters?

How about people that are just bad at keeping track of things they almost never need?

@indivisibleteam honest question, I read through the first bit of the bill and it states clearly there that REAL ID is an acceptable form of ID. This post suggests a driver’s license isn’t good enough, is MI atypical in having REAL ID driver’s licenses?

I am fully against voter suppression, but there seems to be a disconnect from what I see the bill saying it will do versus what people are suggesting it will be used for.

@Caillte Not every state has RealID licenses. Not everyone has a license. State ID cards don't have RealID. Plus, you need to have documentation to get on the voter rolls. We already have a system for this and keeping an eye on purges that happen is already a task.

This bill is forcing people to use less accessible forms of ID as a way to make voting less accessible. Not everyone can access those documents, and they will only become less accessible with this administration. For example, I can't get a passport anymore, my gender marker on all of my documents is an X.

Forcing it to be in person is another way this is making voting less accessible. This is also an existing pattern they've used to suppress votes. Limiting the number of days and hours to vote and limiting the number of voting stations in targeted communities has been used to disenfranchise people across the country.
Creating more barriers for eligible people to vote is not helping election security.

@indivisibleteam
The kicker is, *when* will you find out you need these papers to prove your identity? I'm sure they're not going to tell you before election day.
How many people, after waiting in line for an hour or more, then being told they need their birth certificate, which is probably in a bank safe deposit box, will just give up and go to work or home?
