This is why we don’t need #US #cars in #Europe
@notjustbikes Doesn't this picture have it all? Public trasit, US & EU cars and the point!
@stux @notjustbikes How are those cars even allowed? Is this in Belgium or Netherlands?

@loke @notjustbikes I have no clue!

This seems like amsterdam, but it could be any other larger city

@stux @loke @notjustbikes

It's Rotterdam :)

@cessie @stux @loke @notjustbikes

parkeren op zijn Rotterdams... I lived in R'dam for 9 years, car drivers there are a bit crazy, compared to other parts of Randstad...

it's of course not allowed, surely police should be there any minute. And the owner might have to pay a fine proportional to their income (at least for certain kinds of "hightway code" breaking). In R'dam the fine for illegal parking is €150, I gather.
Few more such violations and the car might get confiscated, as presenting danger to the public.

@cessie @stux @loke @notjustbikes

I still remember: "Zonder Hummer is het leven maar een bummer" (without Hummer the life just sucks)

@dimpase @cessie @stux @loke @notjustbikes I remember "zonder hummer ben je niets/ik rij je van je fiets"
@dimpase @cessie @stux @notjustbikes I'm actually surprised that these things are even allowed on the streets in the first place. But maybe they're not being classified as a car.

@stux @loke @notjustbikes
The license plates are Dutch. The tram is number 10, and it's a "rondrit", a tour of the city.

Based on a Google search, I'm confident that this is Rotterdam.

@jozeldenrust
ah yes! Pretty sure you're correct indeed
@loke @notjustbikes
@jozeldenrust
As should be obvious from the green-white-green flag on the front of the tram 😉
Needless to say, this is a "museum tram", the current RET rolling stock is a bit more modern.
@stux @loke @notjustbikes
@loke @stux @notjustbikes Normally they aren't. Unfortunately, there are some loopholes which cost quite a lot, but obviously not enough.
@stux look up the hummer ev suv
@stux @notjustbikes I also guess that in the picture we see more bikes compared to the number of cars. But somehow the cars dominate the picture.

@stux @notjustbikes

First of all who is "we", are you speaking for all Europeans, Mr. President?

Secondly, most US cars are compatible in size, only very large US trucks are indeed too big for European city roads.

@stux We don’t need this shit in North America, either.
@tantramar no one does 😉

@stux @tantramar even in places that need #4x4 #pickup|s they want smol ones because they only have smol roads in both cities and villages and in between.

@stux the land leviathans make everything worse

@stux

This also happens in the US. We have vehicles to big for our own parking spots in ways that block the right of way.

This image is not about US Vehicles, it’s about US Selfishness.

@Josie @stux Then people complain to businesses to enlarge their parking spots. Rinse, repeat. My view is that if it’s larger than a certain size, you should need a heavy equipment license and be required to follow truck routes only. Sorry, you can’t park it at Costco, or a movie theater. And you can’t park a semi there, either.
@stux Anlauf nehmen und mit der Tram voll die Front der Dreckskarre wegreißen. 😈
@cyb3rrunn3r @stux
Wäre schade, wenn die Bahn dabei beschädigt würde.
Vielleicht müsste man sie vorher mit einem entsprechenden Rammbock ausstatten.

@MiBro @cyb3rrunn3r @stux

@MiBro @cyb3rrunn3r @stux Ned wirklich. Etwas Prestolit und die Tram ist wie Neu, das Auto aber nich:))
@stux Oh well, it is not just US cars. Also European-made cars are bcoming ever bigger and bigger, supposedly because it is "what the Chinese market wants". I needed a large minivan when the kids were younger and opted for a Dacia Lodgy which still ist comparitvely small given its massive inner volume. If I wanted the same inner volume today with a modern car (Dacia no longer offers this at all), the car would be outwardly so wide that it would not even fit into our driveway ...
@tobifant @stux Even my VW Caravelle Long would fit better (although it might still be a bit too long for the tram to pass).
@stux That’s why US doesnt have many trams… 😁
@[email protected] we don't need these trucks in the US either. #FuckCars
But apparently, we do need people who can perceive size and space

@stux

As an American, I'd just like to say that that vehicle should be crushed and melted.

At the idiot owner's expense, of course.

@rl_dane @stux @TundraWolf "your car has been towed, your car has been crushed, please collect your cube..."
@stux
The tram weighs 20 to at least. I can’t see any problem here that could not be solved by Newton’s laws.
@stux ooh. I do hope the tram took the front off it.
@stux (T)ramming speed!
@stux Revive the old cow-catchers that used to festoon NA locomotives!
@stux At that point, making space for the tram with a sledgehammer should be allowed.
@oxyte @stux Or you just run into the car with the tram. Slowly.
@stux it should be legal for tram drivers to just smash cars parked on the rails. For that we will equip all trams with some kind of device at the front to do maximum damage while protecting the tram.
@stux
It's not just about the car ... imagine what kind of brain parks like that and walks away.
@stux You say the front fell off?
@Jakob_Krakel @stux
Let me just point out that that's not supposed to happen.
@stux
Trams need a laser to vaporize objects in front of them
#technologieoffen
@stux is this the trolley problem?
@stux @daswarkeinhuhn Given all the variations of the trolley problem in memespace, it’s a crime that this isn’t one of them.
@stux I cannot fathom how car owners who disturb traffic like this even once don't have to pay a fine bigger that what they spent on their metal monstruosity
@stux
125% tariff on oversized vehicles along with impoundment if they block mass transit, then a huge fine to get the vehicle back.

@Ttown @stux Get the vehicle back? Most countries have too many SUVs, Ukraine has too few, why not solve two problems?

@dmarti @Ttown @stux Baltic states rock. Remember when the mayor of Vilnius, Arturas Zuokas, won the Ig Nobel Peace Prize? https://www.baltic-course.com/eng/transport/?doc=46548

@stux I wonder what the outcome was. Did the SUV get ticketed and towed?
@WTL @stux The wankpanzer owner should've had to pay punitive damages for all the wages trolley passengers lost by being delayed, costs their employers incurred because they didn't get to work on time, salaries of daycare workers who had to stay late because kids weren't picked up on time, business lost because people got to the bar later & didn't buy as many beers, etc. They should post a notice & allow anyone who feels wronged to file a claim against the motorist.

@stux No, that is why you don't need assholes who buy things they can not park, and ignore reality and/or physics.

There are stupid Yurpian vehicles, too, that nobody needs elsewhere... or anywhere.
