Yesterday, 1,400 protests were held to protest the Trump whose headlines fill this page. But to the #BrokenTimes this morning, they are a buried BTW. It has plenty of photos; none here. This is what they call "news judgment." To the Times, we are not news.
As his destruction unfurled, why did the #BrokenTimes choose to show Trump in a five-day-old photo at the White House, supposedly presidential, when he has instead been golfing with Saudis in Mar-a-Lago? That's a rhetorical question.
This is the image the #BrokenTimes could have run with its story, if it were not trying to fluff the Führer. It's the picture the AP ran:

Trump hits golf course as stock market plummets for second straight day over tariffs

President Donald Trump says his trade policies will never change despite sending the global economy into a tailspin by announcing tariffs on foreign imports. He's spending the weekend at his private clubs in Florida. He woke up on Friday morning at Mar-a-Lago and headed to his nearby golf course after writing on social media that this is a great time to get rich. He waved to supporters as he arrived. The Republican president is not expected to appear publicly, although he’s scheduled to attend a candlelit dinner for MAGA Inc., an allied political organization.

Honestly the whole slideshow is pretty on point. Definitely giving third-world-dictator vibes, and barely bothering to soft-focus the security detail at all.

@jeffjarvis

IF ONLY all the masses could walk to and stomp on his golfing grounds. That might hit home. Might.

@jeffjarvis
Something about emperor Nero and Rome burning

@jeffjarvis Isn't that Loomer's job, as a #ClownCarCabinet understudy?

#TurdReich

@jeffjarvis "OH NO LEOPARDS EATING FACES PARTY I VOTED FOR IS NOW EATING *MY* FACE, OOOH WHYYYYYYY"
@jeffjarvis He looks like a corpse suddenly come back to life. The zombie president.
@jeffjarvis
It's always about the act of deceptions with them. Look over here, not over here were we are doing all the damage.
@jeffjarvis The NYT is now a collaborator paper. The Wall Street Journal had a more honest cover...

@jeffjarvis

Even worse, they chose a photo of him aping his post-assassination "fight" pose - evoking all those strength in the face of adversity ideas.

Very odd editorial choice when the topic is the world's reaction to tariffs.

@jeffjarvis don't worry, everything is just fine: "the blow may not be fatal" 🤦🏿‍♀️

@jeffjarvis I think you're missing the much bigger hot button issue of how there's more to selfies than meets the eye

@jeffjarvis

The CBC was no better. I guess to them it's yesterday's news. The election is more important, even when nothing is happening.

@wordstitcher @jeffjarvis
I did watch / hear some CBC coverage, and it was good coverage...just had to find it...which wasn't as easy as you'd expect or hope.

CBC has been trying. Poilievre won't even talk to them, so very little coverage on that front. I heard a tepid interview with that fucking quisling Danielle Smith...a lot of softball questions and no follow ups for pivotal questions following dodgy responses. They'd better wake the fuck up. This is existential for them. ☠️ 🇨🇦 ☠️

@jeffjarvis So disappointing. At least CNN considers it front page news. I was also disheartened this week when asking (reasonably politically engaged) friends if they planned to attend a protest and none of them had even heard about it. The news is being stifled and many don’t even realize it.
@jeffjarvis I hate to admit this, but I agree with the Times. Millions of people who probably didn't vote for Trump marched to indicate that they don't agree with this policies. So what? There isn't any new information here. Does anyone think the Mad Emperor is going to change anything he is doing because millions of people who never supported him in the first place held a protest to indicate that they don't support him?

@jeffjarvis

Maybe the marching crowd should walk through their office so they will notice.

@jeffjarvis one of the American news headlines I saw said 40 around the US and around the world….

@jeffjarvis

#NYTimes weekend editors seem to be the most rightwing of the already complicit bunch.

@jeffjarvis

The problem is, NOTHING will change, unless a political majority in House and Senate can act. For now there is none.

And btw, this shows that main stream media cannot or will not support this civil dissatisfaction. They did and do not even uncover nor dispute the lies Trump and his administration are continually displaying… MSM cannot be trusted anymore as lies are not even being reported vigorously.

The system of checks and balances is broken.

@xs4me2 @jeffjarvis
Predictive post, the day before :

Did something change after today's protests ? "They talked about it !"

Do you want results ?
Do you want to avoid violence ?
Power of the people doesn't lie in protests. Time for show has ended.

Call for a #GeneralStrike
Call for #Mutiny
"But... it's illegal !..."
Make it legal !

A General Strike is something no government repression can handle, nowhere, ever, never.

When it begins it becomes instantly legal, and when it ends, you won.

@franebleu @jeffjarvis

Spot on… this can only be broken by civil action.

@xs4me2 @jeffjarvis
#GeneralStrike is the best way to get results, raise political awareness among the less politicized, and to annihilate all irrelevant group identities(racial shit, gender shit, any kind of shit)

United WORKERS of any class, any gender, any color, is the relevant group identity here.

Unions are the most feared entities by the bipartite mind worm funders preying on your brains, flesh and blood. That's why it's legal to protest and illegal to organize a damn strike in the US.

@jeffjarvis it's so funny at outside observer on the nyt app - all the comments on there seem to be anti trump, but clearly the actual news articles they are serving don't represent their online following at all. I tend to only read the trump critical articles, which do exist, but clearly this is not priority to them. To be fair, I think critical papers will be elected from the press room, so it is the trade off of staying in the loop and deep throating the boot

@Rosmarus @jeffjarvis
It could be a mere statistical effect linked to the interface :

People often comment to oppose elements of the article or provide nuance.

An article giving you the expected analysis just attracts 'boosts', which NYT interface doesn't provide.

@jeffjarvis They are frightened that if they highlight it they will attract the attention of King a l'orange

@jeffjarvis

You don't understand, Jeff, There's more to Selfies Than Meets the Eye!

I think that's worth looking at more than some protests.

@jeffjarvis

We do not have real news in America.

What we have is 1 celebrity type reporter interviewing another celebrity type reporter, concerning how they think and feel about recent events. Or, in the case of the print media, either completely ignoring the issues or burying them into obscurity.

Real new would have no opinion, nor be political, because real news is not moderate, conservative, or progressive. Reporting all the facts - the wonderful, good, bad, ugly.

I use the BBC News

@Linux @jeffjarvis Italian first TV news are currently under the strong influence of the far-right government, still the USA protests were reported, I was actually surprised
@jeffjarvis I don't see anywhere it mention that the Racist Dictator went golfing instead of responding to the protests, or instead of being present to see the bodies of dead US servicemen returned to the USA.

@jeffjarvis

Because "the revolution will not be televised".

@jeffjarvis Total abandonment of journalistic responsibility

@jeffjarvis

NYTimes:

Oops, we forgot to actually look out the window yesterday.
In other news, some Republicans claim the sky is green - what a green sky future could mean for you!

#USPol #NYTimes

@jeffjarvis If they bury it then MAGA won't see it and, therefore, MAGA won't know how upset the nation is.

Problem: When the protests become too big to ignore, MAGA will be shocked and that will lead to fights in the streets.

@philpetree @jeffjarvis Except MAGA doesn't read the NYT.
@philpetree @jeffjarvis does maga read nyt? I think a lot of them—outside the NY-DC corridor—still believe the times is a liberal msm paper.
@maccruiskeen @jeffjarvis Sarcastically, I would ask "does MAGA read anything?" but beyond that, I meant the media as a whole. I saw no coverage on Reuters, on MSM, on PBS, DW, on France 24 or BBC America so you can bet if they weren't covering it, neither was conservative media.
@jeffjarvis
To me, the Times is not a news organization any more.
@jeffjarvis but look at this broadway producer!
@jeffjarvis Like most media, they're addicted to showing that motherfucker tRump's face whenever they can, #clickbait any other name. #trump
Joanna Bryson (@j2bryson.bsky.social)

Though I have no complaints about @washingtonpost.com (Sunday print page not up yet, so home screen plus Saturday's report on Friday.)

Bluesky Social
@jeffjarvis In Russia such (dis-/mis-)info outlets, suppressing uncomfortable information are registered as "state media".
NYT & others not yet, officially.
@jeffjarvis "news judgement" == propaganda.

@jeffjarvis

Seems like the #NewYorkTimes is lost ?
At least, you can wrap your Fish in it.

@jeffjarvis corporate media has been this way for 50 years. They learned the lessons in the 60s and 70s and never forgot.
@jeffjarvis have the NYT covered protests of similar scale differently in other cases?
@jeffjarvis For once trump is right, the new york times is failing hardcore.
@jeffjarvis Almost like NYT doesn't want to spread news?

@jeffjarvis @stux

Even more odd, @dw never mentioned anything on the hourly podcast, and @bbc dismissed it satuday in one sentence as several cities, and nothing more since. I didn't check their websites, I am more interested in what they pick as the top to fit in five minutes. Apparently this wasn't news?

@jeffjarvis Saturday pm CBS, ABC, NBC, and PBS had coverage of the 50501 events. Not near long enough for my taste(waiting to see My face!)-not really-but the print editions did it no justice.
